My cardiologist is mad at me!

Ok, here's my story. I am 39 now, but 7 years ago I had an infected aortic valve which was permanently damaged. The following year I had open heart surgery to replace the valve with an artificial one. Because of the risk of clotting, I have to take Coumadin for the rest of my life which requires monthly monitoring. Otherwise, I am in excellent health. I am 5'9", 165 pounds, exercise regularly. I started PB in the beginning of March 2010. I went to have my monitoring done on Monday, and I mentioned my new diet on PB, and that I eat a lot of eggs. She told my cardiologist, who had her staff call me to tell me to stop with the eggs, or only eat the whites. My suggestion was to test my cholesterol to see if there has been any change. I hope there's not. Anyway, she is not happy with me. Anyone have issues with their doctors yet? What did you do?

Test your cholesterol and laugh at the doctor when your ratios come back fantastic?
Primal eating in a nutshell: If you are hungry, eat Primal food until you are satisfied (not stuffed). Then stop. Wait until you're hungry again. Repeat.

I hope so Griff. I was skeptical about PB, but read enough to give it a shot. I like how I feel, but obviously I have to take extra care of myself since I have a heart issue. It's just a valve problem and not so much a heart problem such as heart disease. But still, I don't want to create a new problem by changing my diet. I know you have had success, so I hope the results are similar with me. My total cholesterol the last few years has been around 165. I am sure she will test me, so let's hope it's not much different.

My PCP asked me to stop drinking raw milk (I'm pregnant) and not take more than 1000IU of Vitamin D. I still drink raw milk (from a licensed farm) and take 5000IU of Vitamin D.

Have you checked Dr.William Davis' Blog (Heart Scan Blog) - he's a cardiologist who recommends a paleo-like diet for his patients. Most of his patients are people with plaque who have it reversed after following his program and your condition maybe different from most of his patients but I'm sure you can find information regarding your condition on his other site - Track your plaque. Good luck.

I'll try. She's a great doctor, and just wants the best for me. But I know she has that CW mentality, and she has to abide by standard of medicine as it is today. My best bet is to agree to periodic testing, which is not a bad thing, and hope that my numbers are good. I am eating strictly PB, no processed foods, no grains, just meat, fat and veggies. I love it, and I really don't want to change it since I feel so good.

But she doesn't. Have to abide by the standard of today's medicine, I mean. My doctor is quickly coming around to PB (of course he's also a DO in addition to an MD, so he's more willing to use non-pharma treatments). You could convince your doctor to ride the crest of this wave of real science and really follow her Hippocratic Oath, instead of following along behind the Big Pharma train. The Eades have been doing this for over thirty years - get her their books, too.

Now as much as I love PB we also need to take in consideration this lady is a Doctor who is trained in delaing with this. Lets see what the results are before throwing someone who is far smarter and has worked a lot longer at her particular craft then we have. I work with Docs on a regular basis and know despite the fact most have a God complex they are genuinely smart people who have your best interest at heart. No pun intended...well maybe a little.

I'm pretty healthy myself at 5'11.7869 and 183 lbs and I am really focused on the PB lifestyle but the ultimate determining factor is what my blood results show when I go in for my next wellness exam in June.

So have them test the blood and go from there. CW isn't always right but it isn't always wrong either and besides 99% of people haven't had a valve replaced.
Today is a new day. You will get out of it just what you put into it. If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. And supposing you have tried and failed again and again, you may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call 'Failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down.

Very true AppalachianMatt. I respect my doctor. She got me through a very hard time when I had my heart surgery. It was scary. I think if I my bloodwork comes back at a reasonable level, she will be willing to let me continue as is unless something changes for the worse.
