And you've never suffered from acute caffeine toxicity? 30 sixteen ounce mugs (and daily) is getting into clinically dangerous territory. People can DIE from too much caffeine. Just sayin'!

    And your poor, poor adrenals...

    a cup of yerba mate + a liquid vitamin b complex and/or B12 supplement

essentially the same thing as a 5 hour energy, but without all the junk

So... Basically yerba mate and meat. Gotcha!

Oofda, my hands are getting the "caffeine shakes" just from reading this...

Question: Are you able to sleep at night?

I make my mate in my drip coffee machine. I prefer it because it comes out the perfect hot, but not too hot temperature, just right for drinking. Also, it keeps the leaves and leaf dust out of my brew.

I prefer the air dried or "unsmoked" mate because it has a smoother flavor, and, IF there is any risk of cancer because of the smoke compounds on the mate, I think you've effectively removed it.

By the way, although I find that mate gives me about four or five solid hours of clean energy, I also find since starting to drink mate a few times a week (it's mate or tea for me), I have been sleeping way better. Odd, I know! Caffeinated beverage that makes me sleep better. Coffee can't lay claim to that for me!

The fact that it helps me sleep better has been a major energy boost in its own right.
I've read about people who are like that. It's weird to me -- there are times where I've had mate and couldn't fall asleep until 4:00 AM! But yeah, Guayaki actually makes an unsweetened bottled mate. The only ingredients are water, citric acid, and mate leaf/stem. It tastes great, but at $2.70 per bottle, it can get a little costly.

I am super sensitive to caffeine but the theobromine seems to give a more calm version of the energy of coffee. Awake but not jittery. And no post energy crash.
I'd definitely love to try out Crio Bru, I've read about it. However, cacao doesn't really seem to work for me -- any time I go beyond 30g of dark chocolate on a regular basis, it tends to make me feel like shit. I'm not sure if this is due to the theobromine content or some other compound in cacao, but I'll give Crio Bru a shot.

Think of it this way... Primary stimulant in coffee is caffeine. Primary stimulant in tea is theophyline. Primary stimulant in chocolate is theobromine. Yerba mate is one of the ONLY herbs known to contain all three substances together (at least in significant quantities to matter). Apparently they have some interesting relaxing and calming properties when taken in combination and I've observed that with the yerba mate so far.
I love mate but I still have to be really careful to limit quantities due to the caffeine. It does have less of an energy spike-then-crash factor than regular coffee for me.

Holy shit. That is a crazy amount of coffee. That can not be healthy.

Ah, so you're waking up every two hours crying?

    Not surprising!
