    why did i step on a scale???

    Primal Fuel
    i am happy with my figure/weight. i choose primal living because i want to be healthy. yesterday i weighed myself out of curiosity and i gained a few pounds. i was shocked! what are the chances it is muscle and not fat?? i have been doing intense yoga everyday (lots of plank, headstand, handstand type of thing). should i not worry or should i be watching what i am eating more?

    If your clothes are fitting the same way, you've probably lost fat and gained muscle in equal amounts, which is actually great news metabolically.

    the same thing happened to me recently. i haven't been on a scale in well over a year, but got $50 for doing a health assessment at work. i had gained about ten pounds, but my clothes told me i was smaller than i was before. i leaned out and put on some muscle...which also moved me up to borderline obese by any BMI scale. if you look good and feel good, feel happy about it and ignore (better yet, get rid of) the scale.

    Sounds like a muscle gain to me. I wouldn't worry about it.

    And throw the scale away. Every time I weigh myself I end up depressed. It's just not worth it.

    scales are evil, right? THe only time it helped was when I was trying to shed post-pregnancy weight. I needed to see the high numbers for motivation (or I would have stayed put!)... Now if I'm happy with a scale weight I tend to eat things I shouldnt (reward?) and if I'm not happy then this number makes me MORE unhappy which isnt good in the grand scheme of health! The way our clothes fit us really does not lie.

    I'm a huge data nerd and I weigh myself every day (right after I wake up). It's helped me learn how much water weight can go up and down. After a large meal, my weight the following morning might be up as much as 5 lbs. But after a day or two of normal eating, it's back down. Weighing myself all the time has taught me that it's not as meaningful as people think. The clothes (for me, pants especially) are the real tell.

    Water fluctuations due to glycogen or sodium probably, can also be a little muscle gain and maybe just maybe some additional fat gain…
