Polar Bear Dip Training
Hi all,
I am new to these forums but have been lurking in and out for some time. I am doing the New years Day Polar Bear Dip in Toronto. I would like to know if anyone has any tips or training protocols for this event. I am currently taking cold showers and drinking cold water before and after meals. I want to try doing ice baths next week but I would like some opinions on that.
Thank you,
Francis

I've done the Coney Island Polar Bear Plunge before... the non-body prep is (I think) more important than any physical conditioning you can do...
it's really helpful to have a friend who's not plunging to hold your towel for you, but not 100% necessary.
I found that having my swim parka + layers of clothing + a thermos of hot water (I also had teabags, instant coffee and cocoa, since it was for 2 of us) was HUGE.
The actual plunging part? go all the way in - swim around... pay attention to your body - if you're too cold, you're too cold, but I ended up swimming for about 10-15min.
