Our evolutionary ancestors regularly fasted, though no doubt involuntarily, so we have the ability to survive a short-duration fast with no harmful effects. Many ancient philosophers -- Socrates, Epictetus, Diogenes, et. al. -- claimed a short fast cleared their minds and bodies.

About once per month I do a 48-hour fast, ingesting only water. If I am feeling fine, I _MAY_ extend it for another 24 hours. It does indeed seem to perk me up. My thick head seems to be not-quite-so-thick and a five-mile walk/light jog is easily done with a light euphoria after sitting down (not quite the same as the famous "runner's high"). There is no apparent change in my usual heart rate either during or after the exercise and my blood pressure is the same. After my first light meal -- usually a small serving of beef or chicken and a small salad -- I feel seriously fine.

Does anyone else try fasting of any duration? What are your results? Either post it here or email me at jfh3i@sbcglobal.net. This is not any sort of study, I am just curious.

James - posting your full email address on an open internet page is a great way to start your very own viagra/cialis collection in your inbox.

I mean, suit yourself, but you're practically begging the bots to come pick up your addy and spam you 6000 ways to Sunday.

I am in the middle of a 30-hour fast; I started it at 11:00 pm last night after a UFC party. The Fajitas, bean dip, and cake were good, but definitely NOT primal.! Anyway, I usually do a couple of fasts per week and find them to be great for fat loss (Eat-Stop-Eat style fasts for the most part).

I've recently started doing a 24 hour fast about once every two weeks. I don't usually plan it ahead of time, just kind of do it.

The biggest benefit I have seen is that I seem to deal with hunger better. Being hungry doesn't affect my concentration or ability to do my job or anything like that the way it did before I started going more and more Primal.

Thank you, brahnamin, for the advice but the posted account is a trash account. I assume 99% of the stuff coming in will be spam.
