You can work out more than 3 days a week, I tend to work out 6 days a week. Just make sure you take at least one day off. Running will definitely help you lose weight. Paleo and Primal people tend to prefer interval training instead of running at a constant rate like you are doing.
If you want to run for 30 minutes do the following workout:
Warm up: 5 minutes
Sprint: 1 minute (15 kmph)
Slow recovery: 2 minutes (8 kmph)
Sprint: 1 minute (15 kmph)
Slow recovery: 2 minutes (8 kmph)
Sprint: 1 minute (15 kmph)
Slow recovery: 2 minutes (8 kmph)
Sprint: 1 minute (15 kmph)
Slow recovery: 2 minutes (8 kmph)
Sprint: 1 minute (15 kmph)
Slow recovery: 2 minutes (8 kmph)
Then jog for the last 15 minutes at a comfortable pace.
Interval running is better for your heart and helps you burn more calories.
