I have no words. I was EXTREMELY uncomfortable inside the fully framed observatory on the top of the Eiffel Tower. And we all saw how much of a baby structure that is compared to this bloody tower.
Well, somebody's got to change the light bulb.

My hat goes off to those guys. During the movie, they keep getting to what I think is the end of the tower, and the narrator keeps saying, "He will rest a minute here. He is now only x feet from the top." And my jaw drops....
Imagine BUILDING that thing.
I'm not scared of heights and that video scared me. If they told me I had to make the climb, I might as well stay on the ground and shoot myself in the head, save all the effort.

My friend John is a tower climber. He fully acknowledges the hazards of his work, fully understands them, and actually enjoys doing the climbing, the views, etc. He is well compensated for the work (relatively, but for someone without a degree it pays pretty well). They do a lot of safety checks and education.
Secondly.... every government worker does not get a state funeral that stops traffic. For that matter, in the south at least, anyone can have a funeral that stops traffic, just have a procession of cars.
Police have an interesting job and are often fairly close with people in the community. Usually when they are celebrated it is because of the community, not the government mandating something. There were two officers killed in my community and they were honored with a park- paid for by donations. From the community. No one twists your arm to honor vets, firemen, police or LOL, the local zoning inspector. It's not like Korea where we show up, donate or are shot.
Check out my blog. Hope to share lots of great recipes and ideas!
What happened to the tower climbing??? I'd seen it before, but that video freaks me the crap out.
