oh my gosh! I finally figured out what fanny means in the UK. No wonder everyone was so shocked! And it took me a minute to figure out bum bag. We call them fanny packs here. I am loving this conversation

Hey! I own several copies of that cookbook (in several different publishings)! That is one hell of a classic cookbook over here. The Fannie Farmer Cookbook dates all the way back to 1896, and was originally called the "Boston Cooking-School Cookbook". Fannie Farmer (her full given name is Fannie Merritt Farmer) was one of the very first to introduce standardized measurements like cups and teaspoons to recipes. It is now in its 13th edition, I believe.

I don't get something... how rude is saying "fanny" in public in England, anyway? It is considered a much more polite way to reference your posterior in conversation over here. "Backside" spoken by a child won't get them in trouble, while "butt" might in more uptight households.

Cos fanny means vagina in the UK.!!!!!! Actually there are much cruder words than that, but maybe that would be too much info.
Actually it is also an old fashioned girls name in the UK, though never heard anyone called it apart from in old classics.

    AAAAAAACCCKKKKK!!! NOW I get it!!!

Oh, boy... that would cause some awkward silences, wouldn't it?!?!

And yeah, in common with British English speakers, we American English speakers have what would amount to a whole porn shop's worth of cruuuuude words for all the usual functional pieces-parts of the human body.

    Thanks for clearing that up!

One other thing... sometimes I hear "bloody" used in British movies. How x-rated is that? The same as our "F-bomb"??

P.S. Just because I thought of this... I borrowed a CD from the library a few weeks ago. It was Eric Idle (of Monty Python fame - I should have known better) singing his songs. Since I had really never heard more than a couple, I thought I would listen, since I really like The Galaxy Song and that one about all the icky creatures also being created by God. Anyway, I pop the thing into the car CD player, Second is sitting up front next to me, and what should come over the speakers but The Penis Song....

Second was almost electrified since she had never heard talk like that - no cussing, just lots and lots and lots of euphemisms for, obviously, the penis. But mostly probably because Eric got to the part about the "one-eyed trouser snake" and I almost ran off the road laughing before I could get that thing out of there.

I would say "bloody hell" though it is a swear word. Not near as bad as the f word. The strange thing is in Ireland they say feck off and it is not considered anywhere as near as the f word. I was horrified when my young niece kept saying it cos it sounded awful.
I have never heard the Eric Idle songs, was never really into month python, but it sounds funny.

    Thursday
    Breakfast – boiled egg x 2
Lunch fried ham, 2 poached eggs and lettuce
Tea: tongue and lettuce with Caesar dressing
    Snack tablespoon coconut oil

    Exercise 60 minutes Zumba

Just haven't felt hungry today. Had to force myself to have some tea, as don't want to wake up during night hungry. I really think the high fat diet is helping me with my chocolate cravings.

Bit disappointed today, the scales said exactly the same as yesterday 148.8lb. I have been getting used to them going down everyday. Ridiculous I know.

    Friday (so far)
    Breakfast – boiled egg x 2
Lunch 500g salted macadamia nuts (didnt have time for proper lunch)
    Tea: ?????

    Exercise 30 minutes walk.
Dont do the gym on a Friday as have my intensive circuit training tomorrow. Goona chill.
Still no coke zero, but this is the first time I have thought I wouldnt mind some. Be gone satan.
