Hi, Tamara, in Harrisburg here. Whereabouts in PA are you?
BTW, I have that same mushroom book... I'm just not confident enough to forage and actually eat anything yet!
Hi all!
I just started my own blog and would love it if you could drop by and check it out or find me on facebook!

I know everyone has a ton of other sites they read---like Mark's! Mine is going to be little snippets about our not-so-mainstream life! Hope you enjoy!

Some of the tasty mushrooms are really easy to identify... because nothing else inedible looks very close to like them!
Start with those!
Hen of the woods... Chicken mushrooms... Beefsteaks... Morels... Oysters... Puffballs (when young)...

I was going to cut some chicken mushrooms the other fall. It was on a downed tree off the trail I jog with the dog sometimes, and as you said, it was so obviously nothing-else that I had the confidence to try it. Deer must have gotten to it first. Haven't done the trail in a while, maybe it regrew this year...
Have never found morels. Have seen some oysters...

Morels are tricky until you've actually found one yourself or had someone show you I think.
It's like they are little forest elves... all invisible... then you see one, and then you're all "Oh, there they are!"
Mushrooming is very conducive to long, lovely, quiet walks in the woods.
Highly recommended.
Also, Tamara...
If that is your hen turkey I'm envious... I miss having fowl.

Oh that WAS our turkey...so sad that he ran off with the wild birds. I loved our little Jake!
I am seeing a ton of mushrooms right now...in the damp woods! I'm not a huge fan but hubby definitely is!
I am in Danville!
