    So, what is the deal? I hear it both ways on dairy and potatoes.... some say they are fine, some say "not so much". I do eat some dairy, but have avoided potatoes.
    Start Date 9.24.12
    Starting weight 285ish ( scale is acting funny so I don't trust it, but 285 is close )
    CW - 271 pounds
    First Goal - 255 by 2013
    Main Goal - To be healthy for my family... I have an awesome family.
    Other Goal - to get off some medications
    Final goal - to get to about 180 pounds by 2014
    NEW GOAL - When I can start a new journal called "Your dad is not so fat!"

    It really depends on what you can tolerate, and how it effects your goals. For some people dairy or potatoes stalls their weight loss; for others, it doesn't. And some people can't tolerate nightshades (like potatoes) or dairy and have digestive issues. It's just one of those "depends ons".

    If you're not sure, cut out one or the other for a month, then add it back in. If you don't have any digestive or weight loss problems, it's okay for you. If you do, then you know you should reduce or eliminate it.

    Depends on the person. If it doesn't cause you issue, enjoy it. Potatos, in any species, are perfectly fine by my body, so I enjoy them. Dairy, while it does cause me issue, is one of my food loves, so I enjoy it sparingly. If it doesn't cause you problems, enjoy it.

    Thanks LW.

    So, tonight is Halloween, but it is postponed in my neighborhood due to Hurricane Sandy issues... So my daughter has a friend who invited her to her neighborhood. We live in a 32 house development, so usually the kids go to about 20 houses, as some don't participate. Tonight she is going to a 150+ home development where most everybody participates..... Will be lots of temptation in the house after 9PM.....

    Suggest to your daughter that some of the collected Halloween candy gets donated to a local charity. A homeless shelter, maybe, or a battered women's shelter. I'm sure there are plenty of families who can't afford a costume, or don't have a neighborhood to trick-or-treat in... they'd appreciate the donation!

    I'll see what I can find..... I know most battered women's shelters around here aren't even known to the public. The keep them hidden to keep the men away.
