This might interest you. They are trying to breed a large friendly companion dog, without the health issues common to most large breeds and the lifespan of smaller breeds.

What a wonderful looking dog! And a great project also. I read through it, and it's a great endeavor. Maybe switching species would give me back the heart to get another pet.

Who says back fat is a bad thing? Maybe on a hairy guy at the beach, but not on a crab.

If they can breed in a longer lifespan it would be great. I couldn't see anywhere on the site How they've been going on that front.

My guys are already 7 and 8, average for their breed is 10 to 12, so I already get dad thinking about how little time they may have left. But I'm hoping that being in a Primal diet for most of their lives had given them better longevity than the average

    Pretty uneventful weekend.

Saturday was mostly garden and fence building.. Planted carrots, turnips, rutabaga, arugula, bok choy, chinese cabbage, spinach, leeks, kale, cabbage and collards. Broccoli will go in Wednesday when I get some plants from the feed store. Fence building was setting brace posts for the corral, which is where I hope to put a couple of pigs next year. Got a pretty good sunburn out of the deal. Temps were in the 70's with bright sun shine... I definitely got my Vitamin D in...

No long run on Sunday. Felt too dry from Saturday.

Food was pretty good though. Had some nice fresh salads with some chicken breast. Wife made stuffed pork chops Saturday night. Stuffing was mushroon, onion and zucchini.

Made a crock-pot of bone broth SaturdaySunday. I poured the liquid through a sheet of cheesecloth to filter out any large parts, and poured it in to quart jars. The fullest of the 2 jars has a layer of fat on it about 3 inchs thick. I may skim that off and use it to cook with. Also, I made come clarified butter. Melted a lb of butter in a crock pot, strained off the milk solids and put it in the fridge to cool.. Next up is lard..... I have some pork skins that came off of some pork picnic hams I used to make sausage from. I will cut them up in to small pieces and put the in a crokpot on low to render out the fat..... and make cracklins in the process!

OK, so maybe my weekend wasn't as uneventful after all...
