This is kinda comical really, after just one week of Strong Lifts, which by the way is how REG PARK and ARNOLD developed their bodybuilding foundation years ago, you state it's not working! You obviously are not doing it right or can't do it. Its a very effective routine and should be used for at least 4-6 weeks with increased weight at each workout once you complete the 5x5 amounts.

If you want to see results, for anything, in a week, you have 2 options:

    1) Steal it
    2) Steroids

Pick one....or adjust the expectations a little

Stronglifts is pretty solid. It ain't rocket surgery to get stronger.

Seriously, if you've been working out for 8 months, don't start at the bar, but start light enough that you don't stall instantly.
I would definitely read Starting Strenght and follow that approach.

As far as I see it, sets of 10 are great for mass, but only if you can do heavy weights for the sets. The best way to get stronger is lower reps.

Then you need to track down an attending I had once that was full of these little things and woop his ass.

"It ain't rocket surgery to laser a retina."
"You don't have to be Albert Hawking to know this stuff."
"Nobody is as dumb as their siblings think they are."
    "Cat got your CN11?"
"You don't gotta reinvent the mousewheel Jack."

He was about 70 and from some nowhere town in Alabama. Funniest guy I've ever met.

I'd rather buy him a drink. I like it when my idioms make it into the common vernacular. Sounds like he probably came up with that one independently. Great minds think alike!

OP you've taken some hits from a few others because your post is classic rookie in the weight room expecting dramatic overnight results. Giving up on stronglifts after 1 week you have to expect some negative responses.

Anyway I saw you acknowledged you need to work on your strength so you're back on the right track.

At your current strength levels you could easily get a lot out of SS for at least 6-12 months. After that a nice transition would be Madcows 5x5 to milk some more linear strength progression. After 6-12 months of Madcow that would bring you to about 1.5-2 years worth of linear strength gains and you should be a very solid intermediate lifter. From there you can decide which intermediate programs make sense for you.

Thats my 2 cents. Good luck with it. Remember to eat big otherwise you wont see any gains.
