Bowel problems due from to much fat??

    Shop Now
Withink the past 3-4 weeks I have had some irregular issues in the bathroom constanlty. Ive noticed after eating on most days in the week I have been needing to goto the bathroom within an hour of ingestion. Signs of undigested food in runny stool is the outcome. Im thinking this is due to me changing my paleo habit to include more fat(which i figured i have been lacking) Now since changing the problem is consistent. Ive fluctuated with amounts of oils/fatty foods and still get the same results. Mainly I think its from to many oils possibly(currently supplementing MCT Oil,Fish Oil, and Ex. Vi Olive oil... Schedueled for a doc appointment tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone has some input here?

Start a journal to track the exact items you ate and when you have abnormal BMs then you can start figuring out a pattern. Its usually not nearly as random as you think. There is likely an offending item that needs to be discovered. Right now your guessing as to what it is. You need a more structured approach.

You might either have a food intolerance (any new foods, not just quantity?) or low stomach acid.

Definitely not a complete list, but somewhere to start.

Not to be TOO gross, but can you tell what food isn't being digested? Some foods, like corn, are notorious for that (hence the infamous "corn-backed toilet snake").

I have always kept track of a food journal and been paying closer attention to the problem in the bathroom lately. I do notice it when ingesting the MCT oil. I never had problems with Coconut oil though or virgin oil(takin shots or adding into salads, cooking).

This morning i had to get to school at 715 so i made a protein shake with a tablespoon of MCT and about a 1/4 cup of blueberries. had to use the bathroom during class and once again when getting home..my session at school was a good solid stoo with no traces of undigested food. Then came home and went again when some remnants of blueberries (this am's food) and bell pepper last night) was in with this very liquidy stool ( this is the usual type of stool i have been facing. Once before from last nov 2011-apr12 I was full paleo and never faced this problem. Converted to be a paleo again 2 months ago this problem started occuring rarely to now frequently.

From what I understand, they sometimes use MCTs for diarrhea, but excess consmption can actually cause it.

Maybe back off from it for a while. If you need to, a lot of people do better with coconut oil, and it supposedly stays in your system longer without the initial hit.

Don't know how good the source is, but might as well post it:

Sounds like steatorrhea. You're supplementing a lot of fats, rather than just eating good fats as part of a whole foods diet. Try cycling back the supps for a few and see if it improves; find your balance, if you feel supplementing fats is necessary.

@ finnegans wake..I feel that that is exactly what im doing and have been relying to much on the supplementation of fats rather then eating..went shopping today and spent 100 bucks and ready to see how the next few days and weeks go

Protein shakes are a suppliment, too. And according to Jaminet, they can cause GI issues and low level inflammation as well, for some folk.

Think you better just eat food.
