    My Optimal Health Journal...lifewithjades

    Primal Fuel
Hola Amigos from Mexico City! Buenas Noches.

I have completed a one month PB Challenge and am now ready to start this as a permanent lifestyle. I want to keep up the journal as that was so successful for me; it keeps me accountable and also I receive such great advice and support.

    My goals are:
Optimal health for myself; optimal genetic expression - basically to be the best I can be
    Body Fat % of 20%
    Energized
    Vibrant
Able to do at least 6 pull-ups
Lean and toned, athletic- able to do any sport I desire or go anywhere, do any activity (for instance hike the Grand Canyon)
Body weight of 145-150 lbs (although the above is more important so this is just a guesstimate- as long as I look and am lean, don't care what the scale says)
One heck of a healthy, sexy body!

My food plan is to be strictly primal (no dairy, grains, sugars) except for one meal a week, within an hour time period. Also, keeping my carbs at 30 g or under, and to limit fruit- if I do have it, keeping my carbs at the 30 g mark. Also to supplement and follow the PB way of exercise and sleep. I've been doing a good job this past month with this.

My current struggles are: limiting fruit - we have the greatest fruit here in Mexico, and not eating at night out of habit. After lunch I'm really not hungry, but am finding it quite difficult to not eat dinner- usually I have friends over and we enjoy this time together...soooooooo-- yes it is a challenge. Even with dinner I'm under my maintain calories almost everyday, but why eat if I'm not hungry?
    So, there you have it.

    Hoy- today:
Brk 10:30 was some pork and salmon. I also had 5 guavas. I know ,not good- they were small and according to Fit Day totaled 60 carbs, but still....a friend brought over a kilo of them and they're like candy! No limiting fruit today!
At 2pm I had about 1/2 a can of tuna
At 3-3:30 half a roasted chicken
At 8:30 a salad with 3.6 oz of ground pork- tomato, lettuce, 1.6 oz avocado, and 1/2 a cucumber. Also about an ounce of chicarron with salsa and a bite or two of a mango.

    Exercise was a P90X video.

    Besos,
    Jade

    Day 4
    Hola Amigos, Buenas Dias!

So, this week I've had fruit most days, or in large quantities when I've had it- and here's my observation: I've been more tired, had a less general feeling of well being, and less motivation than in a long time. Deduction? I do better with my fruit limited. Since I have weight loss goals, I think I am going to limit it to berries in the week, within my 30 daily carb allotment, and tropical/ other high GI fruits for my scheduled deviation once a week. So, there you are.

It does feel good to allow myself to eat! I have been enjoying being able to eat guilt free. But, I don't like the psycological/ physiological repercussions of too much sugar in my diet- just don't feel as good and feeling great is a big motivation for me!

    Yesterday's Eats:
Brk- bacon! The first time I've had it since going PB, wow, amazing. Had it in a salad.
Snack- 12- 3 oz of white fish with cucumber in coconut oil (cooked in I should say)
Lunch- broccoli with beef and olive oil, sea salt. Then had about 1 cup of strawberries.
Dinner, 8pm- more strawberries, some chicarron, a few blackberries, guacamole
Late night- 2/3 am - tacos, the best al pastor and bistek tacos I've ever had. Topped it off with a wonderful drink, sangria, and also had flan. It was really nice. Great conversation, incredible food, wonderful evening/ morning.

    Ah, life is good!

So I am putting my efforts towards working out 5 days a week, walking everyday for at least an hour, getting to sleep by 10:30pm. doing PB all week except for one scheduled deviation within an hour period, carbs at or under 30 grams everyday, and happy happy happiness!

    Besos

you are doing great! your menu for day 4 sounded delishh... I think your one non-primal meal a week is a good idea. That way you can be more dedicated for the other meals

how do you like the P90X? Is it hardcore? I have turbo jam, but lately I have just been doing the elliptical.

    Thanks Greenbutter!
Thank you amiga! Yes, day 4 was wonderful. I just started eating bacon, a few days ago and it is really good. I want to find the uncured stuff I hear about other PBers talking about.
Yes, I like the idea of that one non-primal meal too- and it being a "scheduled deviation" not a cheat or something bad I'm doing.
Well, I HATE working out at home to a video- I like going to a gym and being around other people. So, the one time I did P90X it was ok, but I was surprised to see I wasn't sore the next day. I really like going to a gym and being around others...........It's hard for me to do this at home but for the next two weeks I need to do it.
We should definitely stay in touch and track one another- "twins".
Let's succeed together, well we are already succeeding!

    Day 5
    Buenas Noches

Good day, well actually, this past week I had more fruit than I've had in months, a dark chocolate bar (70%), flan, and tacos with corn tortillas and truthfully today I'm going through some crazy withdraws. I've also gotten very little sleep. On Saturday I didn't get HOME until 6:45 AM. The birds were chirping as I was trying to sleep. Yesterday was a bit of a blur and today was touch.

I'm really concentrating on getting fat into my diet. I don't eat any dairy, so butter is out- so I bought some coconut oil and am looking for ghee. I'm watching my protein intake. I should be at about 80 to 100 grams of protein a day, I've been more like 130. It's can be a little tricky getting fat in, without high amounts of protein- but today I was able to do it.

I have had bacon now twice since starting PB (a month ago) and it's delicious! I want to see if I can find the uncured, just like pork belly or pork side. Pork, or "cerdo" is very popular here in Mexico so I'm sure I can- just need to investigate.

My exercise has been poor as well, and I feel it. I want to get this back in to working out, need to find a gym here that will let me do a week to week membership. In the meantime, must discipline myself to work out at home which I really don't like.

    My Eats:
Brk 9am- salad with 5 pieces of bacon,1tspn olive oil
Snack 12pm- 3 oz ground pork cooked in coconut oil
Lunch 3pm- Broccoli w 3oz beef cooked in bacon oil and coconut oil
Dinner 7:30pm- salad with 8 oz of white fish cooked in coconut oil with broccoli, avocado, tomato, olive oil

    Day 6

    Hola Amigos, buenas noches!

Sleep better last night, and of course feel better because of it today. Just goes to show you, sleep is good!

Exercise today was at my house with resistance bands, 3 sets of 15 reps- back, shoulders, push-ups, sit ups, triceps. I was going for 5 sets but got a phone call calling me into school early. Oh well, that' okay- at least I worked out- I have missed it. I really am not back to normal since that stomach infection, I am looking forward to regaining my strength and endurance. I also carried 10 liters of water 2 block and up four flights of stairs. Walked for about 45-60 minutes.

    Grub:
Brk- was bacon, 6 pieces, on a salad with tomato/ avocado/olive oil
Snack- 3 oz ground pork with cucumber
Lunch- alambre (beef, pork, bell pepper, onion) with chicken consome (broth soup)
Dinner- 4.9 oz of salmon, 4 pieces of bacon, in a big salad with cucumber, broccoli, olive oil.

I might have some coconut oil with dehydrated coconut too.....I'm thinking that might be yummy. I'm going through a bit of a carb detox.

    Buenas Tardes Amigos,

Cravings getting better. I got some more sleep last night and am starting to feel better. That one day of no sleep for 24 hours really messed me up. I am just starting to feel normal again and it's been three days!

Brk 6 pieces of thin bacon with 1 cup lettuce, 1/2 tbspn olive oil, 1/2 tomato
Snack 3 oz tuna fish and cucumber and chile
Lunch 3 oz ground pork cooked in coconut oil with 1 cup broccoli, a few pieces raw broccoli
Dinner about half a roasted chicken with coconut oil and 1 cup lettuce salad

Still working on keep protein moderate, low carbs, and high fat.
    2 liters H20
Ran up my 10 flights of stairs 6 times

    Adios!

I'm hungry today. I am really working at getting more fat.......I think this will greatly help with satiety. Question is how to up fat without protein?

Brk- salad with avocado, tomato, lettuce, and 1 cup of chicken with olive oil
Lunch- 5.5 oz ground pork with garlic and 1.5 cup broccoli 1/2 can of sardines
Dinner- 90 grams of chiccaron (pork skins), 2.5 oz beef, avocado, 1 cup lettuce
Dessert- 1 cup of strawberries sprinkled with coconut oil and dehydrated coconut

Necessito domir; I'm going to bed!

    Hi Jade!

Just found out you started a journal and I read through it. You have such a wonderful attitude - I know you will find your way and be successful. I can give you some biochem facts on fruit but I'm not so sure you'll want to hear it lol. I'll just kick back, enjoy your writing and enjoy watching you succeed.

    You're a lovely person

P.S. Great choice on not being a scale freak. I'm not weighing in again until 5/1 either!
