Haha, I actually e-mailed Mark suggesting he cover this in his "is it primal?" blog post series. He said he'd try to cover it, but no guarantees.

When I was googling this, the only half-decent answer I found in an old MDA forum post here:

Still no clear answer, other than it's super-processed and has artificial/lab-created B12 added to it, so it shouldn't be used in excess. I personally love the stuff and ate it constantly during my few months long vegan phase.

I don't know about primal or not (but my guess is a no), and to be honest I've never tried it, but I work at an organic food co-op that has a vegetarian cafe, and what I do know is that all the veg-head's douse their food in it, and to me, it smells awful!! If that's what cheese is supposed to smell like to you, then it's no wonder you went veggie!
I never know what to put in these things. I write songs!

I think there is no clear cut answer on this one, so use it if you like it, don't if you don't.

I've seen two types of nutritional yeast - the Red Star brand, which adds B vitamins and another brand that doesn't.

I have to agree that it's really a poor cheese replacement, but I kind of like it as it's own thing (not closing my eyes and pretending it's cheese).
