I've been seriously overweight ever since I was 5, reaching the 99th percentile on the doctor's charts and then becoming unplottable. At 5 foot, when I was ten, I weighed 170lbs. A year later, I weighted 180 and had only grown an inch. My insulin levels were crazy and I was prediabetic, I had high cholesterol, didn't exercise at all. I also struggled with depression, issues in my home, and was in and out of therapy. At 180, I immediately started starving myself, eating zero fat, only steamed veggies and boiled chicken. Doing that, I lost ten pounds.
When I was fifteen I developed bulimia. I was sometimes binging three times a day, and puking it up every time. This went on for two years.
I spent from October 2011 to July 2012 on a starvation diet, where I lost another twenty pounds, reaching 145lbs. However, my body felt so deprived and famished that I would go on crazy binges, which exacerbated my bulimia. I wouldn't admit to myself that I was sick. But eventually, it got to the point that my body literally would not give up food and I couldn't make myself puke however hard I tried, and when I did, I could feel it tearing up my insides. Also, I started to feel this drive to puke that disturbed me. Feeling lonely? I would think, Puking would make me feel better. Parents pissing you off? If you puke, you'll feel better.
That's when I stopped myself. I isolated carbs as my trigger, and tried to avoid them. I would only eat if I was with somebody, because then I was too ashamed to go run to the bathroom. If nobody was around to sit with me afterwards, I wouldn't eat the whole day. I knew it was better then having it come back up.
A few months ago, I found Paleo, and twenty days ago, I officially started. I've never felt better, honestly. My insulin levels are stable, I eat well, and I've lost five pounds in that 20 days.
Another change I made was starting to take supplements.
What really, really helped with my depression was taking GABA. I would swear by it. I also take l-tryptophan and B6, and magnesium. They honestly have helped more than anything else I've ever taken.
Anyways. Good luck with your journey, I hope you get where you want to go.
