Even I'm turned off by how acerbic Richard is. I think that says a lot.

Shouldn't you be outside of a courthouse somewhere forming a picket line to remove the Ten Commandments from the lobby? If you don't like his material, I suggest you read other things that don't make you run to strangers on the internet for comfort.
Were I looking for comfort I wouldn't be kicking you in the nads, now would I? (Hey, I'm just being honest . . . and it's for the shock value, really!) I like a good fuckity-fuck-fuck-fuck fest as much as the next potty-mouthed sailor, but Nikoley is unhinged. I started reading him a year or so ago, forget what actually drew me in, and I initially enjoyed the snark. But his turning those who should have been allies into loose-cannon fodder became apparent fairly early on. I stuck around to watch, much like some sick bastards goon on car crashes. What can I say, I like my wrecks in slo-mo.

His source of income is his book. And he promotes his book on his website.

Only in certain narrow circumstances where his ego isn't involved. The whole current bru-ha-ha is essentially caused by his inability to apologise for insulting some people and blaming them for something they didn't do. And he should still apologise for his tweet.

Nope. It's because I see him flaming people and I find myself unable to empathise with him. I don't think that I would behave the same way as him if I was in the same situation. Maybe you would, and find it easier to identify with him.

This is the internet. I think that reading things critically looking for things to complain about should be mandatory for pretty much every site.

Ok, if you are going there, then maybe that is the extreme.

For myself, I don't eat that way and it's not what is advocated on PB, so what, really? Some people go that way, some people go this way, and yet we all seem to fit in here.

If you disagree then go "right, I disagree." And that's that. No need to get into some kind of weird fuss about it.

Current Brouhaha aside, (and apropos of nothing) his book is only *a* source of income and not his primary source by his own accounts. Statements on his blog indicate the book has grossed less than $40,000 so far (I don't know what associated expenses and taxes should be subtracted from that to get his net, but I'm guessing he's made considerably less than $30,000 on it this year all things considered). I didn't catch why it mattered, but if anyone wants to know how much he's really making via his blog that's probably close (plus any money garnered from speaking engagements that he wouldn't have gotten without the exposure his blog provides - but again, I really didn't catch why it mattered).

True to form however, Richard has already thrown in the towel on the whole paleowar thing.

I've been following Richard's blog for like 3-4 years now. Initially because I was just devouring any and everything primal/paleo. But I stayed with him for 2 reasons - one, the snark was amusing: *usually* - and two, the man has plainly put a boat ton of real effort into his own paleo/primal experiment and blogs about both success and failure openly. Asshattery aside, That. Matters.

On the downside we do see many episodes like this paleowar thing where he just gets buthurt and lashes out. Or (as in the instance when he initially backed Jack Kruse as a legitimate human being) he is just feeling oobersuperior to the other peons on the planet and wants to strut for the hens. Often (again Kruse is just too good an example to pass up) that comes back to bite him in the ass and he's back on board offering apologies (or at least admitting he might be wrong).

Following Richard has become more hit or miss for me this past year - same with all my paleoblog romps - because I'm no longer that new sponge soaking up everything I can get close enough to, and now Mark's blog is probably the only primal thing I bother to keep up with on a daily basis, but the trend I notice is this:

In person (check out some of his videos and podcasts) Richard is a decent human being who happens to think he's better than your average muggle (this particularly shows through when he talks about things like the uselessness of voting, etc) . . . a little aloof with some left-of-center ideologies but not unapproachable.

But get him on the internet and he can (frequently) be just as bad as your average 12 year old *STFU N00B!!!!1!!111!!!* online gamer. Wrapped in the relative safety of interweb anonymity he feels safe to do and say shit I know damned well he'd never do or say in person. (Sadly, just like a boat ton of the rest of us).

Then he feels bad and ends up eating a lot of crow. But hey, Crow is primal, right?

I would also expect that any multigenerational family composed exclusively of vegans who only mate other vegans would be so sickly that by the second or third generation they would be incapable of having children.
I wouldn't be too sure of that, with all the supplements we have available in the modern world. But without supplements? Absolutely. It might not even take that long.

Same. Which is mildly annoying, since there's so much stuff that I still feel I don't know. I guess it's a brave new world out there.
