Water Softner (Whole house water filtration system) - problem

    Primal Fuel
My husband and I have just purchased a water softner system and although I am happy with the results of my husband's skin not being dry and scaly and my clothes seem cleaner, it seems I have having a hard time digesting the water. We have had it for exactly 1 week and I have had diarrhea everyday. I am a stay at home mom, so my home is my main source of water and I have noticed when I increase the water, the diarrhea increases. Any ideas of why??? It is only me that is having this problem. I have no stomach ache, fever, nausea, etc to believe it is a "real problem"

    Thanks,
    Amanda

Is your water high in magnesium? That'll cause diarrhea for some.

I'm not sure. How would I go about checking that?

We got a water softener about 6 months ago and sadly I still have the opposite problem usually!! I know the answer to MY dilemma but just haven't done it yet!! What else might you be doing differently?

Your best bet is looking into how exactly your water softner works, what type of materials are used in it. Ask neighbors without a softner if they have been experiencing anything. Go from there.

If your water softener is working properly it will remove all Magnesium and Calcium so I don't believe that is your problem. I would recommend contacting the company who installed the system. Have them check to make sure the brine tank is rinsing properly. If the system is not rinsing properly there could be some increased levels of salt getting into the water. If you happen to have high blood pressure you may be having a reaction to the increased salt level.
