I agree with Pemmican. Also, packaged chicken or sausage is good. Jerky, nuts and those coconut ball things. Protein shakes are good too, especially before bed.

What kind of primal food would you bring on a two-day hike in the woods during spring/summer?

Pemmican. Since it has protien and fats, you can live on the stuff. See this: http://www.traditionaltx.us/images/PEMMICAN.pdf

I made the dryer and did 3.5 lbs of grassfed beef. I messed up because I forgot to season it witha little himalyan salt and a few other things. It's still not too bad though. If I grind it up to finish it off as pemmican, I'll add some, and a few other spices too.

How about canned tuna or salmon? Even canned chicken?

I’ve been thinking about this lately! I went Primal after my last hike so acceptable food is going to be a challenge. Depending on how the fishing is, my bro’s and I will eat fresh-as-it-gets trout for each meal. We just wrap a fish in foil and throw it on the coals! Let it roast for about 1 min/side and enjoy! It’s even better if you get really primal and just dive in with your fingers. So good!

Trail mix, actually a mixture of almonds, pecans, walnuts, etc. to fill in.

Jerky…I really like the pemmican idea…my grandma used to make it when I was a kid and I loved it.

Canned chicken or tuna is to heavy (weight) for me, I just bring along packets of the stuff (chicken not tuna as we get plenty of fish on the hike). The problem I have with the chicken is that I mix it with non-primal stuff. Ie: Bear Creek Chicken Noodle soup, Stove Top stuffing, etc. Can’t do that now!
