    Best sub for Crisco

    Shop Now
Several times throughout the year my family has our traditional roast lamb/veggie dinner. My family has always used crisco. What's the best primal substitute? I can't decide between lard, coconut oil, ghee....and I've been told palm shortening is good too.
At $$$/lb, I don't really want to experiment with my grass fed NZ leg of lamb....
    I appreciate any insights!

Well, I'd imagine lard would be the best tasting option. But then I don't eat any dairy at all, so I personally wouldn't even consider ghee. Coconut oil will probably give your lamb a totally different flavor, so keep that in mind.

What is it for? Cooking veg or meat? Then I'd go for lard. If it's a dessert then I'd go for suet or tallow, as it's milder flavored.

Didn't crisco come out as an alternative to lard in the first place? I would probably use lard.
Eating primal is not a diet, it is a way of life.

I'll 2nd Bork-Bork's suggestion for the Spectrum's Palm Shortening. Available at Whole Food's Market. (Mine, anyway.) Totally neutral taste.

Thanks everyone! I'm thinking Dirlot is right about Crisco's intro into the world and so will probably go with lard. I'll let you all know how it turns out.
