    Does your tracker subtract calories for exercise?

    Primal Fuel
    I use My Fitness Pal to track calories and macros, because I'm rarely at my computer and MFP has the best (IMO) iPhone app. Whenever I put in my exercise for the day, it subtracts however many calories it deems the exercise burned from the total calorie count--i.e. it allows me to "make up" for food I eat with exercise. I know Lose It does this, as well.

    My question is: does anyone actually include "negative" exercise calories in their calorie count? I usually don't track my exercise in MFP because I don't want it to subtract from the total calories. But as a result, am I not eating enough? (My thought is no on that. I don't feel hungry and I sleep and exercise well).

    I'm really just curious. I've always noticed that tracker apps do this automatically, but I've never heard anyone here actually mention it.

    I use MFP as well. I don't usually use my exercise calories, but it's nice to have the wiggle room if I need it. For instance, I burned at least 1500 cals on Saturday doing a half marathon, but there was no way I was going to be able to eat all that back on top of the 2000 cals I already allot myself for pregnancy. Granted, I can knock out 1000 cals or more at a single meal when I'm hungry enough and have planned it out, but I just wasn't hungry for it come Saturday evening.

    I think you should experiment with amounts of food and how much weight you lose/gain. I think the exercise calories a calculator calculates are way off

    MFP is a good example of this. My heart rate monitor is always cashing in more cals than the MFP one.

    I gave up trying to count exercise calories as we use them just by living and I think it's even less accurate than tracking food calories. I just use a counter as an approximation of what I've eaten so that I know when I have overstepped my daily allowance. Once I've lost another 30-40 pounds, I doubt I will bother with calorie counting at all as by then my stomach will have shrunk and I shall be able to eat about 1,000 (or more depending on muscle gain) more calories per day than I am now.
    Why use a sledge hammer to crack a nut when a steam roller is even more effective, and, is fun to drive.

    My weight loss has been achieved mostly through exercise, not chronic calorie restriction, so calories burned during a workout do matter for me (typically 800-1200 cals).

    I've never felt any need to eat more on days that I do exercise, hence I'm in a calorie deficit on active days, and a surfeit on relatively inactive days.

    ETA: I don't use a tracker - I just ballpark and use intuition.

    F 5 ft 3. HW: 196 lbs. Primal SW (May 2011): 182 lbs (42% BF)... W June '12: 160 lbs (29% BF) (UK size 12, US size 8). GW: ~24% BF - have ditched the scales til I fit into a pair of UK size 10 bootcut jeans. Currently aligning towards 'The Perfect Health Diet' having swapped some fat for potatoes.
