    Drink Dilemma

    Primal Blueprint Expert Certification
Hi everyone, I need your help!

I have cut out all drinks from my diet except milk, tea and water (will probably have a wine on SPECIAL occaisons).

My hubby has seen the results I've been getting eating Primal, and he now wants to try it too. However he is extremely addicted to sugary/flavoured drinks, and it's making it very difficult. He is quite defensive about his drinks, and claims he 'needs them' and 'needs the flavour'. I know this is an addiction, but while he is drinking more water he just doesn't seem to be able to cut out the sugary drinks. I'm slowly trying to wean him off them.

Can anyone recommend a drink which will be far less sugar but perhaps still have some flavour? I am going to get him to try sparkling/mineral water with a squeeze of lemon this afternoon. Any other suggestions?

ALSO - I don't buy sugary drinks for him. They do not enter our house unless we have guests, he buys his while he's at work.

Paleo lemonade. Take frozen mixed berries and toss them in a biiiiiig container of water, lemon juice, and a touch of stevia. Let it sit over night, then shake super well.
    Iced chai is nice, too.
I've taken to occasionally enjoying Nuun electrolyte tablets in my water (always when I run though or if I'm out in the sun for hours like when we go to the water park)

If he's a soda guy, you can try Zevia. I tried drinking it personally, but I think one of the sweeteners didn't agree with me.

My DH LOVES his iced green tea. I brew it for him at home and use small amounts of raw sugar and local honey to lightly sweeten it.

    4 oz frozen raspberries
    3 oz spinach
half to one cup of almond milk
    sweeten to taste
    water to consistency

Put all in a blender 'til blended. Very satisfying and sweet.

Flavored carbonated water. No sweeteners and has that 'bite' that soda has.

Just enjoyed a Virg's zero cherry cream soda and added some heavy cream. It's made with stevia.

Some of the suggested drinks sound great. I used to swear by Powerade Zero, Vitamin Water and Propel. The drinks are essentially water with electrolytes and some other ingredients we probably don't want/need. However, they have very low to zero calories, sugar, etc.

Hopefully that helps with his “addiction” and gets him closer to water. It’s worth it!

I wish I could get my hubby on board for even 60% primal, but he's addicted to carbs. And he loves fruit juice.

How about seeing if he'll go with using half selzer water, half fruit juice/sugary drink? That would cut down the amount of sugar, and it's easy to make; you don't even need to get the blender dirty.
