Our 9 mnth old daughter has refused milk for the past 3 days; could anyone suggest suitable substitutes? (Goat's milk is an obvious choice, but raw or denatured? Any other suggestions?)

A child under 1 should not be drinking milk other than breast milk. Until 1yo, everything else should just be for practice. I would take her to the doctor to be sure everything is okay because children at that age should be eating when hungry as they don't have the awareness yet to refuse something they need.

I would rather feed her , but I'll take your advice on board and if there is no appreciable change in the situation see what predictable intervention a doctor suggest. Thanks

My first question is whether or not she has access to breast milk.

In absence, I would consider formulas (look up the ones available through the weston a price foundation web site), and then from there, not worry about it too much if she eats other (purreed) foods with plenty of nutrients and fat.

My son never drinks milk (or rather, very rarely drinks milk), though he does get kefir-like yogurt and some kefir as well -- all made from raw cows milk. He's had that since he was about 1 yr old, which was in addition to getting breast milk (which he got up until the age of 3).

But, having a diverse palate and a lot of diverse options -- pureed -- should be fine for her.

My kids were on formula till a year

Then when we switched to milk they hated it. So never ever drank it. Still will not drink it. They get calcium from other dairy sources. Milk is not necessary. Our pedis said as long as they eat cheese, yogurt, greens and a balanced diet they are fine

let's hope. I'd be concerned if it were cow milk. I thought it was pretty standard knowledge that milk before age 1 was just as bad as honey before age 1.

Yes, sorry, that is what I meant: She has refused breast milk for the past 3 days. Other than this, she is fine.

is she otherwise behaving normally? no fever, sleeping as usual? does she eat other food? if the answer to the last question is yes, then just give her more of that. perhaps there is something you have been eating that she no longer likes the flavor of, as conducted through the milk? please, no offense meant. maybe she is beginning to wean herself? maybe it's krazee hot and her appetite is suppressed? (it is eleventy million degrees here and 10,000% humidity.)
