It's pretty much as simple as it sounds, if it has more than one ingredient, it doesn't go in the cart.
I have been doing this for a while, as well. You and I, and sbhikes, blackcatbone, and some others, know it pretty much doesn't work any other way. It is just that sometimes, I would like to take off to the girlfriend's for the night, or just let hubby do the cooking, or be sick, or whatever, and have no mommy-type worries or cooking responsibilities. I always have the constant cooking thing, or shopping thing, or planning ahead thing, or cooking ahead thing...

I cook gladly, and I am good at it, and pretty much everything food-related gets me juiced, but damn, sometimes the eternal vigilance thing gets on my nerves. The regular grocery stores are hell, we know it, and do about 1% of our shopping there. The rest is everything from two different health food stores to farm stands we know to Wegman's (higher end stuff) to Earth Fare to the oriental grocery, and so on.

Every once in a while I get amnesia and go through the regular grocery store and try to shop. Doesn't take long before I get my memory back... and ticked, in the process, like that Eckrich kielbasa and whey thing.

Thanks for the kielbasa tip, blackcatbone - Whole Foods is all the way up in Cleveland, but maybe I can get my local health food store to carry it.

Seriously. I don't "cheat". I do deviate from my staples of meat, eggs, potatoes and fruit, sometimes even for a week or so. But they always remain my staples because that's what I like to eat, shop for and feel best on. I eat muesli, dark chocolate several times a week and drink alcohol maybe every second weekend. I have scones and coffee at a cafe sometimes and usually eat what I like when I eat out. I probably have a bit more leniancy because I havn't got any weight to lose.

And, if that's you in your avatar, you are still a youngun too. It's harder for bodies with more mileage on them to get away with going off plan. (Like classic cars only run well on the high octane stuff.) I don't think any one pizza is a problem but I do think there is a cumulative effect over the years.

Well I have been pretty overweight and I can gain fat pretty easily. I just stay diligent and shed any weight I gain quickly before it gets out of hand. Lean gains style helps a lot and the odd 24 hour fast makes things a lot easier. When I do go off plan I don't usually binge and I still keep calories in check.

I get what you're saying. I do all the cooking and shopping in my house as well, but if I get sick or am not at home my wife and kids can manage without me for a few days. Having to juggle the specific food requirements you do can't be easy.

The only place I struggle with this is with the crappy oils. They cause inflammation for me, so I don't really like to have them.
Same here- they make me feel like someone replaced my blood with acid or something. And when you eat out, they are in what appears "healthy".... so you eat the frigging chicken on salad, no dressing and still end up feeling like crap. LOL, the hamburger on a bun I ate caused less issue.

Eating out is definitely a learning curve, for the most part I can stay primal, but at the chains all bets are off. I wonder what the best option is to avoid the "oil" and whatever the substance is they inject "flavor" with. (bunless burger?) I always tell people I don't eat at chains, but for whatever reason, sometimes people just need Applebys....

Not sure how much weight shifting you are talking about, but if it is getting to a yo-yo level you are setting yourself up for problems later on.

Eating primal is not a diet, it is a way of life.

I have found the longer I go Primal the more the smell of some restaurants, fast foods, and packaged lunches makes my stomach want to hurl...makes it much easier to keep eating real foods.

I don't know how long you've been primal, but I'm 7 months in and subway's smell still makes me drool
