Edith: one bite at a time page

I have been pursuing Primal since November 2010. Until now, my main focus has been getting my sleep regulated and energy levels up enough to have the mental and physical energy to really get with the program. I have not been a "good" follower of the path at all. But now, after a couple of weeks in which I have had sufficient energy and focus to get a lot of things done in my life that I haven't done in a long time, I am starting to focus more seriously on the food part.

Today, I weigh 233. For breakfast, I had two large hambuger patties with mustard. Right now, I am full. Before work, I am going to stop for a couple of good primal snacky things to hold me till lunch which will be salad. My goal is to be basically meat, veg, good fat, no fruit for a week to see where that gets me.

So, on we go.

Today was sort of an "eh" start to getting serious about the food part of Primal living. Breakfast was two hamburger patties with mustard. Yummy and filling.

I didn't have time before work to get to the grocery store near my house for some snacks. I ended running in to the Family Dollar near my bus stop and grabbing two "giant" meat sticks. Slim Jims but not Slim Jims.

At work I read the labels; they had sugar and soy sauce in them. I ate them because that's what I had.

Lunch time, I went around the corner to the soup and salad place I frequent. I asked for the daily special because I was in a hurry. Romaine, diced chicken, walnuts, craisins, parmesan cheese, and balsamic vinegar.

After work at home, I did ten minutes of gentle exercise. I have markers for Marfan syndrome including hyperflexible joints, so really wild exercise has never been for me. For supper I had two hamburger patties with mustard.

Having read somewhere that recovery from years of SAD can take three years or more, I am not looking to go through some sort of Primal boot camp or to wow anyone like a butterfly emerging from a chrysalis. But I do need to be more focused about avoiding sugar and soy. So, on we go.

Welcome Edith, and good luck on your journey. I am relatively new here myself, having gone primal in April of this year. I love it, absolutely love it, and I love to talk about it, too. I find journaling to be very motivating, and it is always fun to discover new journals to follow also. We have a very nice community here.

Yes, I agree: sugar is murder. I can't eat it myself. Do you live by yourself, or with a non-primal person? I live alone, much easier to be primal.

Thanks for your welcome. I have found the forums in general a very supportive online environment.

For me, Primal certainly makes the most sense in terms of a basic way to eat, move and live. Though I am only now feeling that I can be consistent in applying Primal principles to my life, it has had my attention for about two years. I have never been able to talk with anyone I know about it. My sister "does" low-carb, but only, I think, when she feels a need to lose weight on a short-term basis.

I live with three demanding cats, so I don't have problems with arranging my eating and exercising to suit myself.

I really do think I've reached a place where I can "do" Primal now, and I hope a journal will help keep me going.

Okay, today (July 12, 2012) . . . Breakfast was four eggs scrambled in a combination of hamburger fat and butter along with chopped up salad greens and mushrooms.

Lunch was a salad of romaine, broccoli, carrots, chopped hardboiled egg, black olives, and Italian dressing.

Supper was another salad of spinach, avocado, black olives, turkey, and mayonnaise.

I drank a fair amount of water today.

At home after work, I did ten minutes of gentle exercise based on this program: Amazon.com: Synergetics: Your Whole Life Fitness Plan (9780671673970): Hay: Books.

Then I had two jiggers of rum because work gobsmacked me today. The head of my office announced that she was asked to resign; she packed up some stuff, and the head of security escorted her to her car. This was apparently because an audit revealed "issues" with how money is handled in an area I don't work in. Deep, deep sigh. And tomorrow, a meeting with someone higher up the food chain who supposedly will explain things.

Now to bed, thank God.

Hello again Edith, hope the work issues have smoothed out. Something like that happened to me years ago - not my boss, but a good friend in another department was actually arrested and taken away in handcuffs. She had stolen $14,000 from various accounts. That knocked me for a loop, I still remember how strange and disturbing it was. I wonder what happened to her. She agreed to plead guilty in exchange for not going to jail. Twenty-four years old, a convicted felon. Well.

Thanks for the welcome. I think that the hot weather in my area is making it fairly easy to eat meat and vegetables in the form of salads. Love those. Not quite as easy when it's winter and I think of a hot cup of tea with toast, jam, and butter. But so far, so good.

Well, the official announcement at work said my (former) big boss is leaving because an audit apparently showed poor handling of money in one area . . . no malfeasance but a lot of "going in a direction" management doesn't want to go in. So, an interim big boss starts Monday and we wait six months while a supposedly national search turns up a permanent big boss. Well, as permanent as one can be in my work environment.

I'll check the cat talk out. Cats are an endless source of conversational material. :-)

Today: breakfast of scrambled eggs mixed with sauteed salad greens. Lunch of salad: romaine, artichoke hearts, tomatoes, black olives, bacon bits, chicken, and Italian dressing. Supper--because i had a craving for it--two bricks of cream cheese.

Ten minutes of gentle exercise in the morning, a fifteen-minute walk from the grocery store after work (not too bad despite it being warm out).

Thus I have made it to the end of the week.
