After reading a bunch of the book, "Perfect Health Diet" I got a craving for sweet potato and had some with dinner! Yum! So I feel really good and energetic today. (A bit sore in the shoulders, but due to my workout, more than my injured Rotator Cuff. It does seem to be getting better, albeit slowly).

I will say that the book does delve further into the science of nutrition, which I like. I do get lost in some of the names of proteins and the abbreviations, and feel like I should be taking notes for the exam, but I grasp enough of it to get its meaning.

But potatoes, white rice and yams will be a welcome addition to my diet.

Went out with Eldest Son to lunch. A happy Friday tradition now that he works at the family biz. I usually get a big salad with steak on it but today had a beautiful piece of salmon, some steamed broccoli and white rice. I feel wonderful! Yum!

I guess that I thought that not eating any starches would speed up weight loss, so I have been avoiding them while losing weight. I intended to add them back in when I got down to a reasonable weight and was eating at maintenance levels. But after reading the book, I think I can add them in now and just keep total calories constant. This will likely mean that my fat and protein macros will change somewhat. But with keeping a 2000 calorie diet, their recommendations would be:

150G Carbs (from safe sources, potato and rice)

    116F Fats (healthy fats)

    90G Protein (From animal sources)

I'll give that a try and see how I do! I feel like some Sushi!!!!!!

When you cook rice at home, rinse it and let it soak for a few.. This releases surface starches and soaking makes it more flavorful, especially basmati, my fave. DH says nothing smells as good in the kitchen as a pot of rice cooking.

Mmmm he's right! I'm going to pick up some basmati on my next trip to the store. I have one of those Japanese rice steamers, which does a great job, but I'll definitely try the soaking! Thanks!

I am finding that a bit of rice or potatoes with my meals makes them more satisfying. I was finding it hard to eat enough green veg and protein to be satisfying - also it was breaking the food budget! The key is - a bit - not huge platefuls - at least for me.

David, copy this on a color printer and tape in kitchen; it really keeps me on track.
