Oh dear. I always tuck things like that into the trunk when I leave the car. Materialist or not, it always feels like a violation when these things happen.

Your MacBook didn't have one of those GPS tracers or something? I keep reading articles about people who recovered stolen laptops that way, and they always seemed to be Apples.

Yeah... Both the Mac and the iPod have tracking built in, but since neither has 3G, the thief would have to connect either to wifi for it to be tracked. The laptop actually belongs to my company and didn't have tracking enabled. The iPod did. But the Mac's hard drive can easily be wiped clean and then it's lost for good.

I've password locked the iPod remotely but for somebody who is at all knowledgeble about such things, there are easy enough workarounds.

I drive a Subaru Forester with no trunk, I wasn't supposed to bring him to Soccer, it was a last minute thing and I came straight from work. Normally my briefcase wouldn't even be in the car. It was just bad luck.

It's strange, I am not a religious man. But when something inexplicably bad happens to me I cannot help but think that I have done something to have deserved it at some level. Ironically, I do not feel this same thing when something good happens, I am much more willing to ascribe it to dumb luck.

So what have I done to deserve to have somebody break into my car and steal stuff? I haven't quite figured that out yet. It's just a feeling. Likely it has to do with me not living intentionally enough. I haven't been paying attention to details, in security, in eating (lately) and in caring for myself in general.

It's likely just a way I can wrest some good from a bad situation. If I learn something, the lesson will be more value to me than the stuff that was lost. Then I can think of it as a gift, which makes me feel better.

I wouldn't call that "deserving" being robbed. But sometimes we set ourselves up for bad things, just by not being careful enough. It's not like God is out to get us.

I cheerfully take any blessings I do not deserve. I've had to take rough times I didn't deserve, why not enjoy the good ones?

Well, so the company will replace my computer and Santa will bring Boy a new iPod for Christmas, so all is once again well. I will be sure to keep valuables out of sight, will be more mindful about where I park and will make sure that my car is locked, no matter how rushed I am.

I struggle with depression this time of year, the lack of light, the cold, etc. Something like this relatively minor theft could start a downward spiral unless I process it in such a way that removes the negativity. So far so good.

I've been fasting today. Tonight I'll have a biggish meal but all primal.

This might not help, but since you probably will never know who did it - imagine what a crap life this person or persons have. Can you imagine breaking into cars to get money to buy drugs or whatever? Being a complete waste of space? Just a person-sized hole in the universe? You have a lovely family, a real home, a good job, friends, a purpose. It's better.

Yeah, I sort of wish I could imagine it was somebody down on their luck and driven to desperation and theft and whatever money they get for them (new they were roughly $2000.00 all told), would make a difference in their life.

But likely it was just a random opportunistic thing and the money will buy beer or drugs...

But the Company has already replaced the computer and I'll get it in a couple of days all configured. I talked with Boy and I think I'll get the new iPad and he'll (very happily) get my old one. So it all works out. Kindasorta.

Yesterday was a good day eating-wise. Today will be also and so on until I am at the weight I want to be.

So sorry about the theft - that kind of stuff can really take the wind out of your sails if not careful. Glad that it is 'working out' getting the stuff replaced! Glad you had a good day as far as your eating goes - good for you! Have you found things that help the seasonal 'depression'? I have a friend that struggles with that too and it is tough - she lives in Washington state and the lack of sunshine really affects her... Does increasing your Vit D3 intake help at all? Hang in there - we're rooting for you too!
