It has to be really hard to keep primal when traveling and eating out!! Glad you have the pork roast to chomp on for today. Hope you guys don't get hit with Sandy and the nasty weather! Make sure you are stocked up on wood or gas so you can cook a whole freezer load of meat if you have to. Maybe you could drag the freezer outside if it gets cold enough and open the lid?

Well for storm prep I'm cooking up more pork for pulled pork in the crock pot, and I'm doing up several batches of jerky. I'll move all the meat from the kitchen freezer to the chest freezer downstairs to make it as full as possible. Any air space will be filled with bags of ice and after noon tomorrow I won't open it anymore and will cover it with blankets to keep it as cold as possible.

Last year for Irene, I did similar and everything stayed frozen for the six days we were without power. So hopefully this won't be as bad. I am a bit concerned about flooding given the astronomic tides during the storm. I'm about 200' from the river in nearly all directions (Peninsula) and less than a quarter mile from Long Island Sound. During Irene there was a lot of flooding, but it didn't affect us. I hope that luck holds.

    Another adventure!

Sounds like you are set! Now we'll just trust with you that the water doesn't come your way! Definitely a primal type adventure! Good going on getting jerky ahead of time - great food for that type of circumstance... keep us posted on how it all goes (assuming you have power that is!)

Good luck with Sandy! You've certainly got a handle on things. I brought in my plant stand (I brought in the plants a couple of weeks ago) and a silly frog garden sculpture thing. We have a generator, so I'm not overly worried. Should just be rain and some wind when it gets to us, and we're pretty used to that. Check in with us if you can, we will be thinking of you.

I guess I am as prepared as I can conveniently be. Our town has ordered a mandatory evacuation for the coastal area and for residents on the Branford River. Because of where I am, I do not need to evacuate, but the fear is our section of town will be cut off from emergency services if the flooding is intense. So far our plan is to stay put, but we'll re-evaluate tonight at 8:00, which is when the town updates the map.

Freezer is all set, gutters are cleared, lawn furniture is in. Leaky toilet in the tenants apartment is fixed. SWMBO and boy are at a birthday party and then we batten the final hatches and hope for the best!

Food's been good today. I'm entering ketosis, according to my sticks. I haven't really felt like eating much. I took from the freezer enough meat for three days. If the power goes out longer than that it'll be tough to stay Primal without disturbing my stash in the freezer.

It's all about guessing now. For all you East Coasters good luck! I'll check in when I can!

Good luck David! I am not worried for myself, but for the rest of the Northeast I am quite worried. (I'm fine, my village is fine - we all have means of warmth, food, water, and shelter.) I hope it all turns out to be nothing. Failing that, pork and maybe some single malt scotch will soothe the hurts.

Thanks all! Wind has picked up and I just walked down to the water and surfs up! Gonna be a wild ride! Wish I had bought that generator I was considering... Oh well. Best laid plans and all.

I'm supposed to fly out Tuesday AM to go to Minneapolis... Hopefully I can get there. Not looking too hopeful. Every town up and down the Shoreline has closed schools Monday and Tuesday.

BUT we are back to primal eating now!
I have never understood the American obsession with treating potato chips as if they were actually food and including them in meals. Here they are treated as pure junk food. Eaten with abandon, yes, but as a party food.

David, I hope Sandy won't hit you too hard. We have been told to have four days' worth of supplies even here, which I consider a little over the top. I guess they're afraid power lines will come down. I brought in my Christmas cactus, which was the last indoor potted plant still outside, and that has been my only concession. On the other hand, I probably have at least four days' supplies at any given time anyway, so no big deal. I have at least half a case of mineral water and some club soda on tap, and plenty of food, so there we go. As long as no trees fall on the house, I'm not worried. The press likes to sensationalize things, I find. I mean, this is inland Canada...
