Blurt! I over-ate! The tikka masala sauce was so good I ended up eating way too much and now I'm uncomfortable. My calorie total is 2700 for the day, which is not so bad really. In looking up the masala sauce to figure out totals, I see that despite it being from Whole Foods it's got both sugar and canola oil... Sigh! We all like it so I guess I need to learn to make it from scratch.

However, I'm feeling bloated and sick... I'm not doing so well!

Well Thank you Pedidoc! I do feel better this AM.

It was a rough night though, lets just say that the two pounds I thought I gained yesterday I lost all at once! (Well it took several trips actually). Issues with stomach and points South...

My Temp is still low! 96.7 on waking. I'm not really interested in eating, so I will wait until I am. I suppose I must consider the possibility that I am coming down with something.

Well I felt well enough to eat some lunch (leftover Tikka Masala) and to go outside and pull up the rest of the garden and to put it to bed for the Winter :-(. There were a half dozen eggplant still hanging on, so we harvested those, and there were three cherry tomatoes, the final three. Each of us, SWMBO, Boy and I had one last garden tomato. This was a good year for our tomatoes and we ate lots. Next year we will work harder to find some good heirloom varieties. Also I'll plant some kale and onions as winter crops.

I'll have the winter to plan.

I'm looking into finding a local organic farm to buy some carrots, squash, yams and kale to keep for the winter (or where we can get some during the winter). I'm also looking into using some less used space in the cellar to grow some fresh herbs and greens under grow lamps, or to find farms locally that do that.

I'm really getting into the locavore movement. I think I'm going to seek out some groups this winter.

LOL! Why does this sound suspiciously like revenge? And yeah, mid-calf white socks says middle-aged/old white nerd about as effectively as is humanly possible...

I took my temperature at noon and again just now at dinner. Both times I was 97.0*F. I began to suspect that the thermometer was not really working so called over boy who read 99.1 and then SWMBO who read 98.5. So it isn't cold in here, it is really just me.

For the past few years I've gotten very good at eating very little and always I lose some weight and then I stop losing. I bet this is what's happening, my metabolism slows after several weeks of caloric deficit and whatever level of calories I do consume my body adapts to.

So I'll up my calories (staying Primal of course) until my temp is more normal consistently..
Certainly does sound like the famine mechanism is kicking in, all right, which is not at all a good thing. Your body will respond by over-producing hunger hormones for up to five years. Sorry. I was sort of under the impression that primal eating more or less short-circuited that mechanism, but now I'm wondering. I haven't had enough will-power since I've been on primal to deprive myself long enough to activate it, so I wasn't too sure. Still not, really. I hope I'm wrong, for your sake.

There's a tikka masala recipe on MDA. It's very good, if rather fussy.

The sauce I buy has canola oil, but it is listed way, way down in the ingredients and appears to be <1g per serving. I can live with that. There is another sauce, Seeds of Change, that doesn't have any, but does have a very small amount of sugar. Again <1g per serving. It's not worth it to me to make my own because of that, but that's me. Also, it is just me so it is a lot of work and expensive for one person.

Hey, I think they are lucky you aren't wearing BLACK mid-calf socks.

@judg, I've heard about the 5 year hunger thing before, hopefully I wasn't very deep into it, I can't imagine I was, as my still jolly midsection will prove.

It's funny, but unless I am fasting (potatoes or no potatoes) I really don't notice strong feelings of hunger. I'm not yet very attuned to the signals my body sends to me. It's getting better, since PB, but I still am eating to a set schedule rather than in response to feelings of hunger. Unless I have really overeaten, I am slow to notice satiety too. I stop eating when I believe I've had a reasonable amount. I could always eat more. The other night with the masala, because I was concerned about the drop in temperature and of eating too little for too long a period of time, I decided to eat until full. I ate approximately 3x what I would have normally eaten and was uncomfortable as a result.

I have to pay attention to appetite, hunger and satiety more than I do now. I'm not sure to go about it though.

@Siobhan I'll look for the Seeds of Change brand. I am thinking that I could make a large amount of the sauce and can it (it should be acid enough with the tomatoes to can well) or maybe freeze it in quart bags. I don't mind involved or fussy cooking as long as the results warrant the effort. To buy the sauce is a 30 minute drive to Milford, right smack through the construction nightmare of New Haven. So the path of least resistance may well be an afternoon chained to the stove.

Even Boy likes the sauce! He is by far the fussiest eater of us all.

The temp/metabolism drop may be connected with the season- similar to the seasonal eating article on mda last week I'm betting that your body is going into metabolism hibernation to prepare for winter. It almost makes sense as this is the time of year when our bodies prep for cold by adding fat. Don't be surprised if weight loss slows down/halts. I know mine has as much as I don't want it to. Been on a nasty plateau for about a month and a bit now (though I suspect that has to do a lot with my working situation)
