    Update

    Primal Fuel
Today is my weigh-in day and I stepped on the scale and it read 240.7! That is 5.8 lbs!! A lot of weight to lose.

There are a couple of factors. I did a 48-hour fast (a week ago-Wednesday and Thursday). My last weigh-in was last Tuesday, because I was away the rest of that week. So this weigh-in represented more than a week. I have tried to stay in Ketosis by keeping Carbs under 50 grams. I have tried to keep my Protein under 75 grams (this after reading Primal Body, Primal Mind). Finally in order to keep my calories at around 2000/day I have been eating fat, which on any given day makes up to 75% of my calories.

I feel great, not run down. While I haven't fully embraced the Primal exercise regimen, I am walking daily anywhere from 2 - 4 miles, full of energy.

I am happy with the results, and won't make any changes, but was surprised with the amount of loss. I know, I know, I complain when I lose too little, I complain when I lose too much! Does Nothing make this guy happy!!

    I'm happy!

Update, just for shitzengiggles, after talking about exercise, I decided to do some push-ups. Early on in my PB journey I tried some, and some planking, per Mark's suggestions, but they were so damned uncomfortable. If I got to 10 pushups it was remarkable, and it hurt. Just now I banged out 30!! I believe that is a lifetime record!

And this is without doing any upper body conditioning at all! Of course I am 20 or 30 pounds lighter than I was the last time I tried them. But the change in my strength is remarkable. I wonder if just eating well can affect muscle strength in the absence of conditioning exercise? So it would seem.

Wow. Very inspiring! You are really on a major roll, aren't you?

Thanks all! I do feel like I've turned a corner. It's funny, I was in the 250s for over two months, losing a pound or less each week, then inexplicably gaining some. But I've lost the last 9.3 lbs in two weeks? Go figure.

    But...

I got some Ketosis sticks at the pharmacy and it showed that I was in Ketosis. So maybe I have transitioned into being a fat-burner. I believe the fasting might've pushed me into the transition.

The first fast was the result of personal turmoil, the second was borne of opportunity, by myself in a strange city, no good restaurants nearby. This next one will be purely intentional. I'll stop eating after lunch tomorrow and will not break the fast until Saturday evening (the fancy wedding). This might be the hardest one, given that I'll be in my normal environment and not sequestered in a hotel room far away.

Good luck today. Remember to stay hydrated. Some lemon and salt in your water really helps, I find.

Just finished reading your journal and am inspired. I too travel frequently and seeing how you deal with it gives me ideas. Wine is also a common theme. I need to get moving - not more- just at all. I've really turned into a slug. So your walk descriptions have inspired me. Keep up the good work and journaling.

    Thanks Sabine and Pedidoc!

Well the best laid plans... I packed up a really nice, substantial lunch to eat before my 48 hour fast begins. Then I promptly forgot it... D'oh! In reading Primal Body, Primal Mind I enjoyed the part where they said that clean eating will help memory. I hope that happens soon! So I guess my fast has begun. No food until Saturday evening.

    TMI warning follows!

I do have one slight concern. Both times after the meal that broke the fast I had pretty intense diarrhea. It was minutes after eating, so could not possibly have been the food I had eaten to break the fast running through me. There was no cramping or discomfort, but it lasted all evening and was cleared up by the next morning. Now, since my next scheduled meal is the wedding reception dinner, all decked out in my tux, I am somewhat concerned. I suppose my planning could've been better, but I'm going to try not to worry about it. Sigh...

    End of TMI Warning.

There is a mechanism by which just chewing food can send a signal to your intestines that new stuff is coming in, so they better clear out the old.

You might consider giving yourself an enema the night before if you are really concerned. (Can't believe I suggested that! ) Or maybe an epsom salt bath and some squatting on/over the toilet to encourage anything that's still in you to come out at a time of your choosing.

Yeah I was wondering about that. During the fast there wasn't much...activity there. But it was clearly triggered by eating. I suppose given my 'druthers, I'd skip that meal too, and if it's a buffet and I can do so without drawing attention, I just might. But if I had to guess (based on Bar and Bat Mitzvahs attended in the past) the dinner will be several courses, beautifully presented and served at table, and very posh.

Well, it's likely to be an adventure, for one reason or another!

Maybe try chewing some sugarless gum to trigger the "reaction"?
