So I made an omelet, 2 eggs so not huge, with some feta cheese, full fat yogurt and a spoonful of organic pesto (from our CSA box). Not a big breakfast but it is setting well.

I'm a bit light-headed this morning. I guess in total I fasted from 8:00 Wednesday to 7:00 this morning, so just shy of 60 hrs. Just for kicks I weighed myself this AM and I was 244.1 So I lost nearly 6 lbs of something! We'll see what stays off.

So one of the benefits to fasting like this, I am now convinced, is in times of great stress (what I have said about it is really just the tip of the iceberg). I felt focused, I was not quick to anger (though I am angry) and my thinking has been very clear. I didn't indulge in any of the reactive, self-medicating, escapist coping strategies that I've employed in the past.

I almost can feel myself growing up! Sigh...

Isn't it strange to meet the person who emerges when you shed the layers that have been holding you underneath? I really like the new me, but I haven't quite gotten used to her yet.

Interesting thought! One would think that fasting would be an extra stressor on top of the others.

Yeah, my time honored methods for dealing with stress were to eat whatever I wanted, because it would "make me feel better" or "because I deserve it" or it was to drink, because I was wound up and "needed it to relax."

Now I just don't think that way any more. Throughout this week I really tried to eat foods that I know are good for me and made a point of not going to dinners where I guessed I'd overindulge.

The two day fast was really not planned I was under enough stress that I lost my appetite, or more accurately I simply didn't want to make food and eat, nothing was appealing. I sort of liked the light empty feeling, and I felt it all through the first day and well into the second. I probably should've had dinner last night and stop at 48 hours. I had trouble sleeping and dreamed of food and eating, lol.

For lunch I had some very rare hamburger, yummm!

I find breaking a fast at night makes me wake up ravenous. So I try to avoid doing things that way. Now if I'm hungry at bedtime, I make up a coconut oil concoction of some kind. Seems to work without fueling the appetite the next morning.

Wow! That's impressive. I should give that a try sometime. I'm starting to dip my toes into the IF world by skipping breakfast. I plan to eat a big lunch at 12 noon, but it turns into reminding myself to eat something around 2 o clock. I enjoy the increased concentration I have from fasting.

Great news on the fast! And great that you were able to just go with it and receive the benefits.

Hi Judg, I rarely wake up ravenous. I'm usally up pretty early (5:00 - 5:30) and while I crave coffee asap, I'm not typically hungry until 9 or 10 and by that time I'm at work. I haven't noticed if big meals at night change that or not. I'll pay more attention to it, it's interesting.

Hi Campanella, after a full day and some not-so-careful eating (we had friends come over and brought dinner and wine) I've only put 1.1 lbs on since my post-fast low. So if my weight stays down I might try to incorporate longer fasts into my schedule either regularly (2x month maybe) or at least when I plateau in my weight loss.

Hi Siobahn, Thanks! I really like the flexibility of being able to eat when my body tells me to and be free to focus on other things and not eat when in rough waters. I'd been locked into the "three squares" for a long time, convinced that if I missed breakfast that I'd binge the rest of the day (self fulfilling prophesy). I'm much happier listening to my body.

Well normally my weigh in day would be on Wednesday but I'll be traveling this week so would not have access to the scale. So there is good news to report, I am down to 246.5, for a loss of 3.7 lbs since a week ago Wednesday, (9-5-202).

The fast really is what did it, at one point I was down to 244 and change. But I knew my weight would take some days to stabilize. I'm not entirely sure that it has completely even still.

I'm pretty happy with the weight loss. There are a whole bunch of clothes that I fit into nicely when I am in the 240s, mostly they are Fall/Winter things, so I'll be well dressed for the foreseeable future. Once I get into the 230s I'll need to start buying clothes :-)

Now the goal is to keep to the program while traveling. I have always fasted on days that I fly, I just don't like flying on a full stomach, never did. I give my presentation on Wednesday, Thursday I watch other presentations and that will be the most dangerous day in terms of adherence to diet goals. I'm going with our sales manager, an old school big drinker, man's man kinda guy. I'll stick to big steaks and salads and keep the drinking to a minimum. That's the plan.

Having a plan is one of the most important things for success, I find. Not that I always do it...

Congrats on the good progress! And have a safe trip.
