    Today is my weigh-in day and I am 251.9, down from 253.6 last Wednesday, so 1.7 lbs gone! Funny, there was a day (not so long ago) when I'd have been dissappointed with only that much weight loss. But I am quite content with it.

    SWMBO and Boy left for Maine yesterday, which means I am free to eat what I like without regard to preparing food for those whose lives aren't (yet) Primal. I do all the cooking. I am not a great cook, but I am a decent short order cook. When I am on my own, I can have anything I want, usually I fire up a steak or make something fancy. Last night I was tired and had nitrate/nitrite free organic hot dogs, and some tomatoes, from the garden, eaten out of hand like an apple- bon appetit!

    Not the hautest of cuisine, but it has kept me alive until the morning.

    I went to the beach after work for a quick dip with one of my co-workers who was directly involved in all of the angst and angryness that's been going on. I think I helped a little. So, all in all a good day.

    Simple is good. Especially if it involves garden-grown tomatoes.

    I have never been able to maintain that rate of weight loss for more than three weeks. Which is fine by me. Weight lost slowly is much less likely to try to come back, and in the end, has better results. I would be thrilled, if I were you. That's still 7 0r 8 pounds a month, and that doesn't take long to add up at all. This is a life we're aiming for, not a race to be won.

    I agree! I'm just glad after a month or more of holding around 256 that I'm moving again. Patience, that and Moderation. I need to work on those soon, Oh, and Procrastination too!

    One of the more liberating things about being primal, in my n=1 world, is that I am enjoying simpler food and not cooking lots of elaborate recipes as I used to. I like to cook, and I am (ahem) a pretty good cook, but I'm at the point in my life where I want to spend less time and energy on food preparation. PB is perfect for that.

    I am also eating tomatoes right out of the garden. My landlord gave me permission to pick as many as I want to! They are Early Girls, really, really, really delicious.

    I also like the simplicity of the diet, though for me it's really a requirement. As a young man, in my first big-boy apartment, I really worked hard learning to cook. I made fancy things and discovered I had a real talent for breadmaking and pie/pastry making...(sob!). This made me attractive to Women who don't cook, so I have been able to keep in practice through the intervening years. These days dinner most often starts with a large skillet, some olive oil, diced onions and garlic and then I think, "now what would I like for dinner?"

    SWMBO likes it this way just fine, haute cuisine is wasted on her. She is happy eating cold, gelatenous chicken soup with a fork, straight out of the pan, standing in front of the open refridgerator. Really!

    Last night it was diced eggplant with curry spices (the eggplant was from the garden), a 10 oz strip steak, and a few strawberries. It was wonderful.

    So I am on vacation, sort of... SWMBO took Boy to Maine to visit her Brother and Sister-in-law. I decided (fun though that sounded), I would enjoy myself more by stripping wallpaper off the hallway and stairwell, and then painting it all. So I took off today, tomorrow and will have the long weekend as well.

    Lunch was a can of Wildcaught Salmon, a bit of mayo, spices and some EVOO over 2 cups of organic baby spinach. So far for the day, I am at 1170 calories, broken down as follows: P=20%, C=5% and F=75%. That is about in line with the guidelines in the book, "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living." which I was reading until it got so technical that my brain stopped.

    Not much in the way of exercise these days, though the painting is a lot of on my feet work. I may try to get out for a walk when the primer coat is on (mostly to clear my lungs of fumes...hack!)

    I just brought home an eggplant from the farmers market; I think I will roast it and adorn it with walnuts, blue cheese, and parsley.

    Oh yeah, with you on the breadmaking...one of the most enjoyable things to do on the domestic front. I used to make all my own bread...and pizza crust...and I weighed 30 lbs more than I do now...

    Pizza crust...sigh...Yes, my first job was throwing pies at pizza joint, (owned by a cousin of the famous Frank Pepe family in New Haven). I learned how to throw thin crust to stretch it and make pizza dough. Like you see them do on television. I didn't always make homemade pizza, but I often did. Those days are over...

    So last night's dinner and the whole 30 went off the rails... There was an impromptu gathering at the beach, which turned into dinner on the beach. It just so happened I picked up the CSA box on the way. Besides vegetables, we get eggs and "specialty items" typically artisan bread and cheeses. I signed up for the CSA before going Primal, usually I give the bread away, and any other grain-based snacky things that find their way into the box. But since the box was in the car and we were hungry, we ate the bread, a delicious, spinach and cheese stuffed italian bread. I ate a bunch of it and wine was had, though only three glasses.

    So my recent resolve to stop drinking wine lasted 9 days. A record for me. I'm back on track today.
