i'm not really sure why you think large portions are helping your insulin?
I'm a 50 year old woman who has been eating paleo/primal for about a month, and I have gained 5 pounds. I weigh 165 now, and I want to get down to 145. I was taking weight loss supplements before I made the change in my eating, and I stopped taking them. I think my body is adjusting to this new way of eating. I am tempted to be discouraged, but I have to keep the big picture in view.
I didn't get overweight overnight, and I'm not going to lose 20 pounds over night, either. I'm still tinkering around with my food to eliminate sugar cravings. In addition to cutting out grains, dairy and sugar, I have also eliminated fruit now. I was having terrible low blood sugar crashes. I am cautiously optimistic.
I guess that once my sugar gets regulated, I can reduce my portion sizes. Rome wasn't built in a day.

i'd be a vegetarian if bacon grew on trees.
