In that vein, when my Second heard about my class discussion during the car ride home, because it absolutely cracked the class up (no vegans in my class) she looked up and said something very close to... "Nah. Waste of time. Vegans are too stringy - no meat on their bones."

Am I raising Primal kids or what?
(Although I did counsel/remind them to not judge people solely on the basis of diet, as Second herself is a special-diets kid.)

It isn't the diet I mock.... it's the mindless zealous following of a cult practice that I mock....

I wasn't mocking either, I thought no2's comment was on the ball, it made me chuckle a tad, there probably about, but you don't see many Bluto type vegans kicking about....

    And yes!

Though I generally make some quiet excuse and leave when children are around, I do like the idea of paleo kidlets. A word of caution: don't get too friendly or name your vegan something cute if you intend to eat it. As mentioned above, Mr. Fricassee is lovely. And I think low and slow would be the way to cook it for optimal flavor.

Tonight's special: Gluten free vegan fried in lard over a gluten free waffle. It's a Southern thing.

So. Third had her annual handicapped horse show thing on Saturday and... SHE WON A FIRST PLACE TROPHY IN ONE OF HER EVENTS! Woohoo!

Hubby and First and Second are now in Missoula MT, and I really wish I could be there. As a treat, while they are gone, hubby sent me a camping cot to test. Santa's Big Brown Truck delivered it Friday. My delivery guy drives well - I had company, and I didn't know this thing was coming, so the parking lot was full when his big 'ole truck comes down our 650' drive, which has no turn-around, and the space we use to K-turn in close to the house and garage is currently still occupied by my monster tent, so the dude threw it in reverse and made it backwards safely, around the bend, no hitting trees or nothing. I would have probably taken out the generator, halfway up the drive, had it been me. Anyway, the oldest kids are truly enjoying the mountains and western landscape, so that is good. Up for today - Glacier Natl. Park. Sigh - me envious.

Tent performance after two consecutive drenching days of rain this week - absolutely, perfectly, bone dry inside. The thing is a keeper!

I called Third's school today to ask them to remove us from the automated phone notice list. Well - here we go, going it alone, for Third's school year. Next up - finding a way to replace her participation on her school-sponsored Special Olympics bowling team.

    And that is it.

    WOOT! WOOT! Congrats to Third
somehow I manage to leave my intelligence and decorum at the door wherever I go. I doubt your journal will be an exception to that - not on the rug

    Yeah Third!

Sounds like First and Second are having a wonderful trip.

I have faith that you and Third will do really well this year. I'm sure you'll find a way to replace the bowling team. I wouldn't be surprised if you both find this arrangement more to your liking.

DS is taking a history class at the Community College, it starts tomorrow. If it turns out he doesn't care for it there's still time for him to sign up for it at his school since they don't start until Sept 2. I think it might be a bit of a stretch for him, but we'll see.

You got yourself a serious upgrade on your tent, and a cot to boot, practically luxury camping!

Thank you, thank you, from both of us!

We all, Third included, were so taken by surprise - you see, Third has been doing the horse competition ever since she started doing riding at this facility, about eight years; in her first competition, as a weeny thing, she got ribbons down near the last places (three events allowed to ride in, max - the show has a whole list of competitive events that take into consideration the least able to the most able riders at the facility, and you choose the three most appropriate for your kid). In her second competition, she got two first places and a second place. And then she developed a long streak of what I dub "Last Place Specialist" - we have a treasure trove of ribbons in all sorts of weird sherbet colors denoting eighth place and such (because everybody gets a ribbon). Until this Saturday. All the moms who know her actually jumped and cheered, just because we sooooo weren't expecting it!

    Anyway, thanks canio!
