I guess it wasn't an issue for me, just stopped drinking.
I've been "primal" since Jan 8th obeying the 80/20 rule pretty well except..... I haven't been able to shake beer. I'm down from 17% body fat to 10% and in the best shape I've been in for the last 12 years or so. I'm reluctant to give it up, but my goal is 6% body fat and I seem to have plateaued.
For those of you who reluctantly removed beer, what changes did you see when you committed
I guess it wasn't an issue for me, just stopped drinking.

I was a brewer for 19 years. I think that saying that I was giving up beer entirely would simply be a lie. I have one very high quality beer about ever 4-6 weeks and I cherish it foldly. I have also made it a personal quest to find a gluten free beer that's any good. There are several contenders coming on board these days but none really compare to the real thing quite yet. I have become quite the conneseur of cider as well, quite a variety coming out these days in that area too.
Life is too short to make sacrifices that eat away at you every day, if that for you is giving up beer, try simply scaling back.
Any kind of grain alcohol started giving me a headache at some point. Ciders and wine are fine. So I generally don't drink beer or vodka anymore! I can get away with it in VERY small amounts (more so vodka than beer). I've been at this for almost a year now, and probably gave them up for good around New Year's. I drink very irregularly, so I have not noticed anything significant about reducing that amount even more.
Another vote for switching to hard cider from beer (and continuing to drink wine, which I don't really think of as a beer substitute). I used to be a big fan of imports and microbrews but the grain exposure just isn't worth it to me any more...still have a bottle each of my erstwhile favorite hefeweizen (Franziskaner) and Belgian (Orval) sitting mournfully at the back of my fridge!
I'm all about the whisky now. Jamesons, Bushmills, Glenfydych(?)...love it!
I still drink a beer sometimes in the evenings. I drank 7 the other night and the next morning felt like a band of gypsies had migrated into my skull and commenced playing songs of their people on out of tune bagpipes.
But I'm cool with 1 every now and then.
If I just said LOL, I lied. Do or do not. There is no try.
