    Still new and digging around the fringes until I change some of my eating habits. So potatoes are bad, but sweet potatoes are ok?

    If you do a search on potatoes in the forum, you will see a lot of discussion about both kinds. . .and the opinions vary a lot. Some folks think either is an okay choice (but not something you'd want to do on a regular basis), some won't touch either one.


    Insulin is one factor, the whole nightshade family another--anyway, check out the threads and you'll get a lot of food for thought. (Pun intended!)

    Mirrorball, in one of the other topics you mention that Loren Cordain says that only sweet potatoes are ok. Why is that do you know? In NZ our sweet potatoes are called kumara, which are purple skinned with yellow flesh (and sometimes golden skinned as well) Anyway they are yum but I dont like them fried particularly. Normal potatoes are much nicer fried! (my weakness) I dont want to eat them all the time but sometimes they are just a convenient thing to have hence my question I suppose.

    If they fit into your prefered macronutrient ratio, go for it. For most of us, that doesn't amount to very much sweet potato though.
