    Opt for the Paleo doc. I LOVE having a doc that is on the same page as me. She's not pushing drugs at me for my cholesterol and she gets the whole EAT FAT mindset. It would be worth the drive and time.

    Gym........ if you know you would utilize it enough to make it worth the expense. I wouldn't - I'd rather just take a nice walk through my neighborhood and watch the seasons change in the fresh air.

    my motivation

    As per Marcadav:
    Do 30-60 days clean primal.
    No grains, sugar, alcohol.
    Eat 3 meals and primal snacks.
    Don't track food.
    Don't tweak.
    Don't expect issues to go away quickly. Instead, just follow the plan and see how things play out.
    Decide on an exercise plan you can/will do consistently during the 30-60 days and then do it.

    My opinions:

    Go with the Paleo doc. You will get better advice/care/motivation from her. Besides, we paleos/primals need to stick together and patronize each other's businesses.

    Join the fitness center and get in the pool! It will be great. The human body is meant to be in water sometimes.

    Thanks Ladies for weighing in!

    Spent the morning doing on-line teacher stuff. Went to have spa day this afternoon (massage, facial, pedi, mani). I know I'm spoiled, but surrounded by guys means I need my girl time!

    Leftovers for dinner. Early to bed since tomorrow is a clinic day. Started immunotherapy Tuesday hoping to kick the rest of my asthma issues in the butt.

    Slept good, but woke up to a nasty headache. Could be due to the ozone warning currently in effect. Getting ready to have some coffee. Pork chops for dinner.

    1. Drive for the Paleo doc.

    2. Walk the dogs... separately! Then you don't have to worry about going two different directions, and (if you have the time), you'll get a longer walk(s)!

    3. See if the gym has a trial period... where you could pay for just one month (or three moths, etc.) and see if you can make it there often enough to make it worth while. If you can't get there often enough, you'd only be out that one-month "membership".

    So 3 votes for Paleo doc - will call tomorrow.

    2 votes to try gym and 2 votes to walk more (Goldie voted for both, with the gym being a trial) - will contact them when I get back from Provo to see if they do a 1-month trial. Tomorrow walk the dogs separately - the one left behind cries the entire time.

    Still feel blah and now am wondering....... I never had carb flu, could it be a late on set? I've been eating pretty good (well don't count the pizza) or could I feel blah this many days later because of the pizza?

    Whatever I'm ready to move on. Boys are having pork chops for dinner, but I have an acorn squash calling my name. Time to go kill it and bake it with butter!

    I'd say the pizza might be the culprit. After going a long time grain free - I hear it can really mess things up when you have it again. Something about the enzymes needed to break it down for metabolism have diminished due to lack of use -- so then you put that stuff in there and you're body isn't sure what to with it all. Then you feel yucky............

    When I go for my daily walk Zues sits in the front yard and howls........ poor guy - he just can't go with me. Here's a good trick I learned from walking 2 basset hounds...... about a foot from each collar tie them together. They are forced to walk side my side that way. Doesn't mean they won't both want to stop and sniff at things at different times - but at least they are forced to keep going in the same direction - hopefully your direction!

    I'm not a fan of gyms myself. I would sign up at the local pool, but I would have to walk there and back, and that is just more exercise than I can handle in one shot. Really, the question is: would it work for you? Have you ever had a gym membership in the past? How did it work out? If you never have, the trial membership definitely sounds like the way to go.

    Great points Judg. I'm thinking that I need to be consistent about walking first. Maybe if I look at the gym as a reward for when I'm 10 pounds from goal? That would mean 22 pounds of walking or using the free workout room at my parents community (<5 minute drive). So walking and free facility first, then we will see if I want the other as a reward. But I am calling the Paleo doc.

    Ate the entire squash (nom, nom, nom) and a pork chop (slow cooker with lemon pepper x 4 hours on high = juicy and tasty)! Headache is finally better. Hopefully this cured me from pizza.

    I'm starting to think about holiday cooking. I need to try mashed cauliflower and see if the boys will accept it as a potato substitute. Maybe a root veggie hash instead of stuffing? Deviled eggs and olives are tradition for us. I don't mind having rolls for the boys. A fruit salad and another veggie. I have to make pecan pies for the boys, but could do the custard Siobhan posted also. Of course turkey - I usually get a smoked one, will think on it. Just some ideas.....

    Garlic mashed cauliflower is WONDERFUL and while you can tell that it's not potatoes, the cauliflower taste isn't overly obvious (especially if you sauté the garlic in butter before you add it to the mash... and use plenty of garlic!).

    Deviled eggs are primal if you make your own mayo (I do and it's lots better than any store-bought!) I've also seen some recipes for avocado deviled eggs here on MDA's forum, just do a search.

    I've never been a stuffing fan, and we've been married so long, hubby is used to no stuffing at Thanksgiving. But it is a special occasion, so I don't think there's any harm for one meal. Just chalk it up to the 20%.

    I make cranberry relish instead of cranberry sauce, and it's VERY easy. Just take fresh cranberries, blenderize until they're a relish-like consistency, add a little lemon or orange zest, and a small amount of maple syrup to take away a bit of the tartness. MUCH better than overly-sweet cranberry "jelly"!

    I haven't figured out how to make primal gravy yet. I'm wondering if tapioca flour would do the trick? Mark gives it the "safe starch" seal of approval, but it is high in carbs. Rice flour might also work. Thanksgiving is about the only time I ever made gravy, and I haven't made it since the kids became adults.
