Slept almost 8 hours. Going for pedi/mani the to get my hair done. Trying to get ready for the weekend away. When I get home, I need to work on homework, but probably will nap. Bacon wrapped hamburger steaks, green beans, probably the last of the potatoes for dinner. It's rainy with severe T-storm warnings here. Juliet does not like T-storms, must be a holdover from her homeless or abused days. She looks for somewhere to hide or paces nonstop. Latte could care less, but she's always had a loving home. Makes me think about trust vs mistrust stage in Erickson's development and how abuse or neglect has long term effects on children.

I had the same experience with my late beloved Corgi who came from a questionable background. She would shake and shiver during thunderstorms and fireworks. The other dog and cats didn't care less. It was so heartbreaking to see her like that, she was inconsolable. It's bad enough in animals, but to think humans also suffer like that is really hard to take.

Kathi and Siobhan, I have the same experience with my rescued Golden Retriever (see my avatar). We got him four years ago, when he was about 2 years old, and have no clue about his previous life. He is terrified of thunderstorms and avalanche noises (we live near mountains). He shakes and whines before I even realize there's a storm coming--he's a good early warning system! Our other Golden who we got as a pup is perfectly calm no matter how severe the storm.

We've rescued other Goldens with the same "scared of storms" traits. I really do think it has to do with feeling secure and loved as a pup--just as in humans.

So sad. It took Juliet 3 years to finally bark and only when she is excited to go on a walk or playing. Schnauzers are talkers, so someone punished her severely for barking early in life.

Dark purple toes, glittery light pink fingers, no greys showing, grocery run, 45 minute power nap, hamburger steak wrapped in bacon, potatoes, mushrooms, onions for dinner - check, check, check......... Did buy some ginger apple hard cider to try. Off from clinic tomorrow. Major homework to get done.

Slept about 41/2 hours. Have had my coffee. Contemplating going back to bed. I need to review a doctoral students final paper, critique a fellow students work, and work on stats final sometime today. I'm thinking frittata for dinner. Okay, bed is calling and I'm not going to resist.

This made me smile. Either a short night's rest(4.5), or a SUPER LONG one(20.5)! The power of a space!
