According to Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary, which is sitting here in my room, the rape definition is the second definition. The first definition is to either a) take by force, or b) overcome with emotion. So the rape definition is least commonly used.

yes. when i used the word, i meant it in a willing, enjoyable context and clarified multiple times that rape was certainly not a part of the desired scenario. still, i apologize for using a word which has dehumanizing connotations for some.

i'm not sure what MLP had to do with the conversation, but it's a nice diversion. awww how cute! i could see canio, kenn, and my two kids engaging in a discussion about the latest MLP episode. yes, even my 8 yo son loves that show, and willingly admits it to his friends.

I'm disappointed by your lack of pedantic instincts.

I'm pretty sure kenn is the only on here in the forums who thinks ravish has dehumanizing connotations. For the rest of us, it's just a normal word.

Few people have an appreciation for language and history.

Minute, trivial, unnecessary, and unjustified criticism or faultfinding.

    Agreed.

Also, anyone who has studied language and etymology knows that the use of words/word meanings is anything but static.
