Are these supplements good for anxiety/depression?

    Primal Fuel
    I'm looking at:
    L-Theanine.

A capsule that contains St. John's Wort, Griffonia, Siberian eleutherococcus root extract, L-Tyrosine, and Inositol.

Also a B-Complex containing: Vit C, Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, B-6, Folate, B-12, Biotin, Pantothenic Acid, Inositol,PABA, Acerola, Rose Hips and Choline.

Would it be dangerous to mix any of these? Ant positive or negative experiences with these?

I find magnesium helps a lot. B Complex is also good. Not really sure about the others. Have heard good things about 5-HTP. You might want to check out the book 'Mood Cure'.

I too suggest either the Mood Cure book or a smaller more accessible book is The Antianxiety Food Solution book. I recently started a few different amino acid supplements in addition to things like Vitamin D and have noticed a strong improvement. They are making better food chices easier to make now that moods are more balanced as well. Good luck.

I take L theanine every morning on an empty stomach, keeps me calm.
Have done so for over 2 yrs with no ill effects. Doctor told me about it.
I get it on Amazon, subscribe and save deal.

I've been taking Tyrosine along with Phenylalanine (Tyrosine is a precursor for Phenylalanine, which is a precursor for dopamine. There's been som research that shows taking BOTH together is beneficial, and I've had good results taking both, but haven't noticed much when I take either of them individually without the other.)

Also, have you tried SAM-E? I had good results with that, but like EVERYTHING I take, it eventually stopped working for me. While it was working, it was great, I felt very even and mellow and overall positive about life. If you do take sam-e, it's really important to take a good B vitamin along with it.

And, I'd also suggest looking into Stablon. I ordered it from a reputable UK pharmacy called International Antiaging Systems. It's not an SSRI or anything (with none of those bad side effects) but it is a very interesting antidepressant that's actually showed to have positive health effects - improving brain elasticity. It has a VERY short half life, so it's out of your system within a few hours, so it's recommended to take it several times a day. Plus, if it's going to work for you, you'll be able to tell immediately, you don't have to wait weeks, and there's no problem with starting and stopping it, or even just taking it on as 'as-needed' basis, which is how I take it. I find that I need to take two pills, though, because I don't feel anything with one.

In the past B-Vit comlex has boosted my energy levels, excersise has then been more possible, futher boosting my mood, by being outdoors, in nature, doing stuff, which is often the best way out of depression (or being a miserable bugger as we call it in Yorkshire, the CV cure being binge drinking, a dirty kebab and a fight)

Thanks for all of the advice on the supplements, especially from those who've tried them! I have been eating paleo for two years, I exercise everyday. I'm a recovering alcoholic. The old food and sunshine cure isn't enough for me, I'm afraid. I've read The Mood Cure book.
Thanks, Judy and BestBetter, I tried the L-Theanine yesterday and noticed calming within a half-hour. A bit later I took the capsule that contains :St. John's Wort, Griffonia, Siberian eleutherococcus root extract, L-Tyrosine, and Inositol. This combo make me feel even better and NO ALCOHOL CRAVINGS!!!!!!

Tyrosine is good. Be aware also that serotonin is the sad, not the happy hormone so you may not want to take 5-HTP since it is a precursor.

Sorry to hear that the good food and excersie and sunshine is not enough for you right now. I have to admit when I was at my darkest place it would have done bugger all for me too. In the end changing the things that were s*it in my life sorted it - ditch the ex who was bringing me down, changed my job that was sucking my soul, I had gall bladder issues at the time and my gran had recently died, it was all a bit much at once. Hope you find your happy place soon
