I'm wrapping up my Whole 30 on the 25th of July. It's been an easy transition for me, although I've always eaten clean. I have many social functions to attend (1-2/weekly) and I devise a plan, in advance, for each of those. Last weekend for a brunch following a 16km run with friends. The brunch is a yearly event and lots of carbs (runners love carbs). Knowing there would be few choices for myself, I finished my walk/run and went home to shower (that was my excuse). Once I got home, I fired down 3 eggs, showered and made it back to the brunch, just in time for the food to be served. Without letting anyone 'in on my new primal plan,' I had a serving of bacon, a touch of yogourt, and a few berries. I mix and mingle with a cup of coffee in one hand, and a bottle of water in the other, and no one noticed a thing. Success!
This Saturday is an outdoor BBQ party. I should be fine with meats and no doubt there will be a salad. I don't bring up the Primal lifestyle as I don't like attention to be drawn to myself, and I don't feel inclined to counter arguments from friends about why grain is good for us, or why I shouldn't give up cheese etc.....
There is always alcohol served at each event, and I either have water (in place of beer), or in the evening I'll have a glass of red wine. Not a big deal for me to decline 'off limit foods'. I'm focused on losing the remainder of these 14 lbs and I keep my eye on the prize!
I think I may write a blog specifically on tactics to avoid eating food porn at social events --- without drawing attention to yourself.
