I like a wide variety of heavy duty, LOUD, often percussion and bass intense music (from down tuning).

I don't understand calling the Metal guys and gals who do the guttural throat heavy style as just having screaming tantrums... it's actually not something that just anyone can do effectively. And if you look at people like Corey Taylor of Slipknot (and others)... their is much more to him than that alone.

And the truth is I listen to Metal as much when I happy as I do when I'm angry. I like that driven feeling it gives... IMO that's a very necessary component of a great Metal song.
But I also listen to a very wide array of other music including classical.
And combine the two for some Cello Metal... DELICIOUS!
Slipknot my "favorite" rage album from previous is considered Nu Metal.

Here you go Paleobird... a primer in the types of Metal. Learning is fun... the subgenres each list a few bands... just look them up and listen! You might even find out that you like some of it.

I appreciate the info, really I do. I like to learn about all kinds of music. It's interesting. That said, I was just going by the small sample of the tracks offered up here and it sounds like acid rock to me. To my uneducated mind, heavy metal and acid are the same thing. Forgive me for getting the sub genres of heavy metal identified incorrectly. Since it is not music I find attractive, it's not something I know much about. And the vocals sound like atonal yelling to me. Maybe that is a special skill. Doesn't mean I have to like it. There is no melody involved. Give me some R&B, soul, or classic rock any day. <toddles off to the old folks home>

    Nonpoint or maybe Chevelle.
Today is a new day. You will get out of it just what you put into it. If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. And supposing you have tried and failed again and again, you may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call 'Failure' is not the falling down, but the staying down.

Mastadon - they're a local metal band and the name just oozes primal.

Matt, you're not too far away from me.
