    I don't know. I already add 1/2 tsp. to my dinner almost daily. And I eat canned fish which is salty. I think, for now, I'm going to stick with my plan, which is this:

    Take 730 +/- mg potassium chloride daily. Enough? More?
    Take 800 mg magnesium citrate daily.
    Stop adding salt to food, stop sodium bicarbonate except for emergencies.

    Will give this at least a week and then do some heavy squats to tempt the devil and see what he does to my body.

    When I played football in high school I would always get muscle cramps by the 4th quarter (my hometown was so small we all had to play both ways and special teams, never even left the field). It sounds nuts but my coaches started having me drink a cup of pickle juice before each game and it never happened again.

    Not sure if that would help or what... figured I would just toss it out. It's nasty btw.

    Carrot, apple, and celery juice have complete electrolytes. I'd liberally salt your food if that's what the baking soda is for. Maybe look into WAPF soaking beans and grains. Properly prepared is not bad and might solve your problems so you can lay off baking soda sups. Also recommend Epsom salt baths for magnesium.

    Also, use NaCl in addition to colored salts and eat sea veggies. Your chloride might be low. I just had a bout of this according to blood work.

    Less serious potassium chloride side effects may include:

    mild nausea or upset stomach;

    mild or occasional diarrhea;

    slight tingling in your hands or feet; or

    appearance of a potassium chloride tablet in your stool.

    Bwah-hah-hah!!!

    I love pickle juice, always have. And it does work for cramps. I've used it. They say it's the vinegar, acetic acid, which is also why mustard works.

    I'll get a lytes test run when I get the chance...

    You're afraid of food!

    Be smart about the bread you eat. Have sourdough, or some kind of non-wheat bread.

    Yeah, considering it...if the magnesium and potassium - and reduction in total sodium, the most probable catalyst - don't help.

    I was going to mention magnesium as well. I was having horrible cramping during the night, but started supplementing 2 x 200mg chelated magnesium, and have had no problems since. This is the product I use:

    I was just reading an article by Taubes in the NY Times. He says across different nations, most people consume an average of a 1.5 tsps per day.

    I kind of get off on semantics actually.
