Powerclean's are a part of SS. The pullup is not. The five exercises described in SS are: the Lowbar Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift, Press and Powerclean.

Actually, I should rephrase that, the powerclean is added after the initial couple weeks (after the deadlift is nailed down). Chins can come later along with hyper/GHR.

According to a trainer I know who knows Rippetoe very well and has trained with Rippetoe many times, chinups are a part of starting strength. So, unless you think Rippetoe doesn't know what SS is then chinups are included in SS.

Even if on paper it doesn't include chinups, it's implied.

I don't care who knows what/who. I am referring to what Rippetoe wrote in his book... known as Starting Strength. And, if you read the second part of my reply, I do state that chin ups are/can be added in. They are not however apart of the starting sequence. He doesn't go into the biomechanics of the pull/chin up in SS. In chapter 8 he makes reference to adding them once the the core exercises are adopted. Squat, Dead, Bench, Press and PC. The book is about barbell training.

This Gadsie is the advice from someone who would kill to do it over again from your age.

Do the fat boy routine. Your a skinny kid and losing weight will never be a problem for you.

Take advantage of the novice effect, follows Mark ripptoes advice to the letter if you want to be a strong man. If you want to workout with the girls sells the book and go Zumba with the cheerleaders.

Drink a gallon of whole milk a day no one gives a damn about a six pack if you can't press your bodyweight or squat 2.5times it. Again you know how to get skinny. You can't both be skinny and get much stronger.. You can optimize the central nervous system to be strong for your weight but why not gain muscle while it's easy?

Don't fuck up Gadsie. Follow the program don't modify it. Lift, eat study and sleep. You wi
L regret it if you don't and the extra time will give you more time to eat study and sleep which should be your priorities at your age.

If you follow the program don't puss out on form and progressions. If you puss out sell the book to a worthy soul. The worst thing you can do is try to make a better program than what this man has put together for you.

Commit to something and stick to a program already. Training is a lifelong pursuit, your waisting time.
Integrity is what we do when nobody's watching.

Have you read the most recent version of his book? The one that came out a year or two ago? The most recent one even includes the pendlay row as a substitute for the powerclean. Are you aware of this?
I'm not interested in what he wrote in some 10 year old book. I'm interested in what he would say if you walked up to him and asked. I have no doubt that he would tell you to do chins.

Can anyone give me the routine from SS? I live in the armpit of the world. I have ordered it but courier doesnt come here as often as I would like and I would like to study the routine and get started ASAP. I am assuming this book actually has "day 1 do this" ect...?

    Thanks
