Are you sure you're primal ? Rice ?
I got me a sushezi sushi maker and have all the rice and sushi nori I need, but not really a clue as for the filling. Avocado and cucumber for starters. Can I use raw fish from the frozen section? The fish counter in the supermarket? Where do people buy smoked salmon? I've never seen it before, just those overly expensive slices of salmon next to the cream cheese.
Help, please?
Are you sure you're primal ? Rice ?

(So please forgive the strange way I tend to express myself in your beautiful language)
If I don't eat carbs I don't do well. However, that's not to the point.
Any suggestions for fillings?
white rice is fine. you'll need to add rice wine vinegar and a bit of sugar if you want real sushi, but that's besides the point.
frozen fish (thawed, of course) should be the number one option! right?
"dean ornish and dr. davis think the palmitic acid our bodies use for fuel while we sleep is poison if we eat it. zero-carbers like charles washington think the oldest fuel in our evolutionary history – glucose - used by organisms a billion years ago and without which the brains of modern mammals cannot survive for more than a few minutes – is an unnatural toxin if you eat it. both views ignore basic facts of medical physiology and defy evolutionary history." - kurt harris
Many people who eat primal include small amounts of white rice in their diet as it is a pretty innocuous starch.
It depends on the individual and the individuals goals.
Filings...
Find a GOOD fish monger.
Fresh fish goes best in sushi rolls.
Frozen fish loses taste and textural quality.
Smoked salmon or Lox is good... but you don't seem to like the price.
You could try the 'Krab' stuff which is made from white fish...
Real steamed crab meat...
Ahi tuna... raw
Yellotail tuna... raw
Snapper or seabass... raw
Salmon... raw
Fish roe (eggs)...
I particularly like conch and giant clam (geoduck) raw. *DROOL*
Also octopus is good IMO, but needs special prep...
A good red chili paste is indispensable for spicy rolls. NOM!
How about you go to a sushi bar... sample some sushi and see what you like.
Then try to replicate the rolls at home from internet recipes...

Our body is our subconscious mind, and anybody who thinks that their conscious mind is running the show is seriously mistaken. In fact the conscious mind just may be the most narcissistic entity in the universe, it thinks it's running the show. It's not.

And that's why I'm here eating HFLC Primal/Paleo.
As an aside, the rice wine vinegar is used IIRC to replicate the traditional methods of fermenting the rice and fish. Has anyone ever eaten a fermented rice sushi roll? It sounds kind of ick, but fermented foods are worth investigating...

There is no fish monger out here. Is the fish from the supermarket no good? I'm an hour from the coast, but not sure if that matters. Does sushi fish need to undergo special tests for parasites or something?
I have been to sushi bars, just can't remember...have little kids, so has been a while.![]()
Ikea has some mean crab paste, but not sure if its primal. Would something like that work? With a piece of cucumber and avocado?
Vegetable and avocado rolls are my favorites: cooked sweet potato, cuke, carrots, cooked shrimp, cooked lump crab, and avocado. I would even used canned salmon in a roll. I break Japanese hearts every time I eat sushi.
