Meh, I blame magic-bullet answers. People would rather believe that drinking pure fat smoothies, eating VLC, going-meat free, and bouncing on bosu balls is going to have more of an effect than simply eating less obvious crap and working your ass off in the gym. Why? Because it's easier. It's so much easier to construct an insane dietary ideology than to actually get off your ass and do some hard work.
And just from observing the retarded "exercises" I see people doing in the gym, it seems to me that people are driven to fuck around as a way of avoiding failure. If you never even begin to approach success, you never have to face up to failure, own up to mistakes, or motivate yourself to work harder.
Us fatties and former fatties HAVE to push ourselves outside our comfort zones. It's the only way. I know because I was there not 6 months ago; fucking around with assistance exercises, counting the carbs in every banana and strawberry I ate, and obsessing about food blogs. Not a sore muscle in sight, not a single sweat broken. That was way easier than anything that's actually gotten me results.
I'm also intimately familiar with the fat-person mentality; blaming, whining, finger-pointing, and obsessing. Being fat really does fuck with your hormones and personality (it feminized the shit out of me - physically and mentally - I shudder to think what it does to women), which gives way to a cascade of self-destructive and avoidant behavior. I deeply sympathize with being stuck in that position, but at some point you just have to take responsibility for your own destiny, or kindly GTFO of the gene pool.

“The whole concept of a macronutrient, like that of a calorie, is determining our language game in such a way that the conversation is not making sense." - Dr. Kurt Harris
I get your point magnolia, but that is the reason why it is important for people to remember that everyone here is sharing their opinion, and it is just that -an opinion.
After you read posts and learn who says what and compare it to the research yourself, then you can learn to trust certain poster's opinions or file 13 them. It is the reader's responsibility.

It's because america subsidises their wheat and corn growers, artifically lowering the prices that foods using those ingredients cost. Processed food is really cheap, but it's still manufactured food and it's more costly than growing your own vegetables.
Where people still grow their own food, that food is much better for them than wheat and HFCS based products.

let's have some proof that overconsumption is driving famine in third world countries. most starvation is caused by political strife (and those on top either not caring or intentionally keeping food from those on the bottom).

A metabolism drop occurs with any weight loss diet. That's one of the main causes of weight loss stalls, a lowered TDEE.
The Atkins craze has come and gone several times. They have a long term adherence rate similar to any other diet craze. Exercise actually plays the biggest role in the weight loss maintenance phase for most people.
Even those that stick to their diet plan gain the weight back if they don't eat at or below their maintenance. Just look at Jimmy moore, dana carpender, mary vernon etc. If food consumption is more about entertainment/enjoyment than a necessary sustenance than it's hard to keep the weight off no matter what food groups you're eating or not eating. I know I could easily become obese on the primal diet if I was to stop exercising and started eating all the food I wanted.
No it's because they are fucking lazy and can't be bothered to prepare cheap healthy food.
They load up on pizza and ready meals and take aways and ice cream which is more expensive than lots of healthy alternatives over here.
Food like kale, sweet potatoes, bananas, liver, greens, eggs, Turkey etc are v cheap in comparison but hey they might need washing or peeling or chopping or cracking or steaming or roasting etc
Can't be bothered to do that mate I am busy, sitting on my arse watching 'pop idol' on TV.
What go to that place with grass and trees for a walk.....the PARK with it's FREE exercise machines no way I'm too busy playing Xbox
Funny even though I'm skint I have enough money for cigarettes and booze !
Oh dear apparently now I'm not that well have to go to the doctors all the time, can't work, feel depressed and bad about myself
I WONDER WHY?
Whatever.
I spent a year in the states. Although I wasn't primal, I did care about what I eat. But I didn't buy a single vegetable from the supermarket in that ENTIRE YEAR because the vegetables were so sad looking (plus, I lived by myself, and it's much harder to be motivated to cook a whole meal just for yourself). I was amazed to find an entire aisle of the supermarket devoted to salad dressing. I literally had subway 5 times a week since that was the only decent food I could find.
Perhaps there was a lack of initiative on my part to 'search out' the local farmers market, but at the time I was living by myself in an urban environment.
My point is, people may not know how/why/where to get the healthy stuff, or what to do with it when they get home.
That's ignorance. It's not "fucking lazy".

I'm going to guess you have a desk job or are still in school, preparing to (supposedly) head right out to a management job.
I'm going to assume you haven't ever done a job like mine where you can walk (almost a run, really) up to 20 miles in a day out in 115F heat during monsoon season (yeah for humidity!), battling angry dogs and customers while climbing over piles of trash. Then you get to go home and prepare a healthy meal , washing, chopping and cooking in the kitchen standing next to the stove (350F, please!) before you can even shower.
Life is so simple when everyone's life is just like yours.
