Great suggestions! Except for fruit... I'm better keeping sugar to a minimum (even fructose) - it affects my sleep too much.
I used to eat it all the time - but I stopped because it's a grain... (I read an article that said it's okay but still not great). Does it work for you?
I'll make a big pot of beef stew and use either turnips, parsnips, or rutabaga instead of potatoes. Can't even tell the difference.
Rice if you need the calories.
Eating primal is not a diet, it is a way of life.
PS
Don't forget to play!
I find white rice very benign. I'd say that if you have issues with white rice, you have issues with glucose and carbs in general.
F 5 ft 3. HW: 196 lbs. Primal SW (May 2011): 182 lbs (42% BF)... W June '12: 160 lbs (29% BF) (UK size 12, US size 8). GW: ~24% BF - have ditched the scales til I fit into a pair of UK size 10 bootcut jeans. Currently aligning towards 'The Perfect Health Diet' having swapped some fat for potatoes.
If I dont eat moderate carb I get depressed and incredibly tired. I'm convinced it f*cks with my thyroid. Anyways,
Carb staples in our house are:
Spaghetti squash
butternut squash
Plantain
Sweet potatoes
pumpkin (usually to make a primal type pudding for dessert on my heavy lift days)
bananas
and white potatoes....yup, a lot of them too. And I've seen no issue with them. I don't really understand the fear of them in the paleo community.
