    I miss my All Bran

    Primal Fuel
    Sh*t just got real...real hard!

That is to say, since going primal just over two months back, my BMs have become less regular, and are hard, compacted, large and therefore very difficult to pass

I must admit, when on SAD I also experienced poo problems with occasional constipation, hemorrhoids and general unpleasantness (particularly after spicy food or a boozy night ).

However several years ago I found a fix, by adding All Bran to my cereal every morning. Since then I had very little trouble, in fact I cant remember my last "blockage".

Now, living primal I have gone from "fluffy floaties" to "stinky sinkies" and from daily to every three days. I have pain, often some blood and a particularly nasty experience - thank God it only every three days, I need the recovery time!

Ive scoured the forums here and on other Paleo sites and tried a number of things including upping the fat, upping the veges, sauerkraut, benefiber, supplementing magnesium, probiotics all to no avail

I looked into the gut flora info at gutsense but don't fancy paying for the monthly course of tablets.

I'm not sure how long I can keep this up. In the past, this sort of issue has been a deal breaker with diets, but I have to say, so far this has been the best thing I've ever done. Id love to be able to keep going, and thinking maybe I can add my All Bran for breakfast again as the only exception...
    I'll be back

As you were experiencing problems before it's likely you had issues then and the diet change is throwing your gut flora into chaos. Most likely you have dysbiosis, which can take a while to sort out.
Often more than two months. Have you tried kefir? This works wonders for me. And what is your veg intake like? If you really think you need something like bran try flax meal instead, as at least it isn't a grain. Other things that can help until your guts are sorted are aloe juice and coconut oil, but be careful with the latter as it can have the opposite effect if you take too much too fast.

Do you avoid fruit? Try a mango or a plum or a few slices of watermelon. Fruit keeps me regular.

good ol' prunes or you could look into senna leaves for a temporary fix. In the long term unless there is something medical that needs a doctor, given time to get gut health and balance with the right diet (primal ) then you should be regular and have no trouble.

Kefir, coconut oil and Mg. Keeping increasing the dosage of all until problem reverses, then find balance, then reduce as needed.

I drink a green smoothie of spinach an apple and an orange(just blend it all up) daily that keeps me regular. I get backed up if I stop. I've heard apples are very good for BM's.

I made bone broth last night and it cleaned me out. Try to remember that most of our waste on the SAD was stuff you put in your body that it did not need. When you eat clean it is much more efficient. You are eating things your body is actually USING. Less crap in = less crap out.

After trying the non-starchy-veg-only approach, I've found that starchy vegetables (and fruit) really are the missing link in having a good poo. Have some sweet potato and I guarantee you'll see improvement.

Not sure what "all bran" is, but if you really want some oatmeal, I say go for it. Look up a traditional method of preparation, and as long as you don't have major gluten-intolerance issues, it won't hurt you.
