Government is nothing more than violence, and the less of it you have, the better off you are.

The Government's only power is their monopoly on the ability to use force to subject its citizens. That's the reason why there could never be another civil war against the US government. It would be very easy for them to turn off water and power supplies to the area of revolt, and there aren't enough individual farmers who produce enough food to sustain a standing army for a prolonged period of time. Nuke? No. Just turn off all methods of transportation and food supply. Heck, a set of strategically placed EMPs could take stop any "serious" revolt against the government.
