Lol please no "when i was your age" stories , times change. Plus, on the other hand, without this forum I'd still be stuffing my face with oil wheat and sugar.

I find the thread mildly ironic given that so many adults argue against the intellectual capability of young people while displaying an extraordinary amount of ignorance themselves.

Somehow arguments of 'i'm older than you' and 'when i was a kid ...' just always seems to win the day despite their complete lack of validation.

It's certainly a different world for young folk than when I grew up. I think it's a tougher world.

absolutely. i hated that argument when i was a kid, and now (27 counts as adult, right?) i still hate the argument. i noticed how my continued development altered my reasoning capacity, but teens still must make decisions for themselves regardless. we just need to remember to exercise caution when giving advice to any person, and hopefully the advice receiver has a good head on their shoulders as well as people around them who care.

I agree. I dont totally disregard the argument concerning teens and their not 100% developed mental capabilites. Unfortunatly the argument is mostly misused by older people with no actual argument except the vague and generalizing "well .. Your brain isn't fully developed yet!" In effect this line of thinking has just become a way of admitting defeat involuntarily.

it can be a valid word of caution, or it can be a card people pull to avoid arguing logically. i've experienced too much of the latter in my growing years.

There's no shortage of obtuse older people out there. Why focus on teens?

Seems like kids are the last oppressed class that it's ok to openly shit on.

I'm seventeen and loving the Primal life. Also, I find myself eating more than my parents combined sometimes. Not sure if that's a disorder or not... :P

Personally, I'd rather those with eating disorders took healthier advice from us here cave-folk than some of those awful bulimic and starving sites. I cope well enough with it; I'm not dead or dying, I'm full of energy, etc. Better people with disorders eat something and keep it down with the occasional fast than eat nothing at all and chuck up everything they do.

This is worrying for a number of reasons. Obviously, there are a lot of people here who are appropriately aged and legitimately need to lose weight; this is a great forum for these people to give and receive support. However, it is no doubt triggering and harmful for teens with eating disorders. What's worse, it is obvious that many people do not read these kids' entire posts and proceed to encourage them to fast or give up nuts or dairy or carb cycle or some other inappropriate advice.

PLEASE be more cognizant of the advice you give and to whom you give it. These kids are very impressionable and some of your comments may have profound effects on them. I think that the MDA forum is wonderful, and great for the right people, but 14-year-olds are not the right people, so, as adults, we should all be more responsible about how we respond to them.
I think that it's great that some teenager's are already choosing to eat healthy on thier own. I agree that some things need to be filtered but not just for teens but for everyone. There are some people who are giving ridiculous advice (just like any other forum)that I and all of you have to look at and ask ourselves if that is good or bad advice. I have two teenagers and I would be so happy if they decided to eat this way and come to this forum where most people are giving great advice. I realize that I may have the years of experience behind me to help me decide who's advice is good and who's is not. But how do you think I got that experience? Alot of mis-steps and mistakes that have lead to my health problems which lead me to MDA. So if they are here already good for them. Maybe they can avoid all of the issues we as "old" people have had to experience.
We all need to realize that yes teens are young but that does not make them stupid or ignorant. If they have an eating disorder and they are on this site then I am glad they are here and not on some anerexia site. If they have an eating disorder, not allowing them on here will not stop them from having an eating disorder. At least this site promotes eating healthy. Teens are already getting bombarded with so much bad information and negativity. We should be giving them praise for having the intelligence for asking these questions on here. Not making them feel like they are less inteligent than us because of a few years. When I was 14 I was no more likely to take dumb advice than when I was 18. I just had the responsibility, in the eyes of society, put on my shoulders when in actuality it was always mine as I am the only one who has to live in this body for the rest of my life.
